College football never runs out of chances to surprise the fans! One of their recent shocks came with ex-NFL HC Bill Belichick trying his luck in CFB. After all, no matter how much experience the 72-year-old head coach carries with him, he has to start from the ground level in college. Already his age has been a major factor in being doubted as the North Carolina Tar Heels HC. Another analyst thought of putting down the blinds on the Tar Heels’ fans’ eyes who think that it will be an easy ride with Belichick. While Belichick is yet to save himself from drowning, the Tar Heels is set to take a turn.

Now this might come off as surprising for many. After all, this man carries some 23 years of experience in the NFL. This is followed by eight Super Bowls! Now that’s not at all a dull resume. Maybe, that’s why UNC was so glad to have Belichick as their new HC. After all, they had to get rid of Mack Brown, who only gifted them mediocrity. At 72, the ex-Patriots HC will be making $10 million per season, though his official base salary is $1 million. Belichick is not the only one to step into Tar Heels. Once he got his HC seat, Belichick also landed his son Stephen Belichick as the UNC DC. That might be a big plus point for Belichick. But will that be enough?

On The Ruffino & Joe Show, the host Blake Ruffino had one question for the co-host Joe Deleone. “Head coach of North Carolina brings over a son who changed a position group from 120s into the number one overall unit in the country. Joe, what is the realistic expectations for Bill Belichick going into year one at North Carolina?” That’s when Deleone came with a blunt take for the Tar Heels HC. He stated, “The expectations for this should be low. He has never coached in college… he’s never coached the college game.”

Now this applies to both the father-son duo. However, the analyst is not quite interested in the son. The HC’s role seems to be enough concerning as Belichick is likely to face hurdles in his way. “Him not being a part of college football is going to be a learning curve as much as I have hyped up this higher and as much as I have said that Bill Belichick is going to understand how to professionalize North Carolina’s roster.” And what if the HC fails to implement the learnings?

Ruffino sounded an alarm, “Steve’s going to be fired right alongside his dad but if everything starts going hunky dory.” However, this is not the first time that Belichick has been doubted.

Young guns pose a threat for Bill Belichick

The fact that things are going to test Belichick came to light in Bruce Feldman’s analysis. On The Solid Verbal College Football Podcast, the FOX Sports writer said, “North Carolina folks and Bill Belichick can talk about, like yeah, it’s going to be like an NFL model…but like enough, people. I know who are actually been doing a job for a while… it’s going to drive him mad.” But what made the analyst believe that the future is all dark for the Tar Heels HC?

The analyst thought that at this age it would be too hectic for him to go door-to-door meeting high school recruits. The challenge gets 10 times more when he fights against other CFB HCs who are in their 40s and 50s. Oregon DucksDan Lanning and Ole Miss RebelsLane Kiffin, for example. These factors are going to add to Bill Belichick’s physical and mental toil. But even amidst this uncertainty, analysts hint at a huge turnaround for UNC.
