Is Carson Beck the Achilles' heel in Georgia's quest for a national championship?

The Bulldogs defeat the Gators! With two late touchdowns within a minute of each other, Kirby Smart’s Georgia (7-1) triumphed 34–20 over rival Florida, avoiding an upset attempt after losing QB DJ Lagway to an injury before the second quarter. Although his teammates managed to secure the victory, Carson Beck had yet another poor day. It seems Beck is the single element that prevents Georgia from winning a title. On top of this, Beck’s performance pattern creates troubles for Georgia, despite their triumph. But this time, Kirby Smart’s Georgia received a sobering reality check.

The X account of Split Zone Duo, a college football podcast, posted a video on November 4 along with the remark, “Georgia might have a Carson Beck problem.” The broadcaster gave a detailed explanation of the issue, saying, “I don’t want to pretend that he wasn’t, but they just don’t have it. I mean, two of those interceptions are horrible, horrible throws that he had yesterday. He has thrown 11 picks in five games, most of these are not a bad break ball bounced to someone. Most of these interceptions that he’s thrown, averaging more than two a week for five games, have been not the good kind.

They don’t really have an easy button in the passing game which is what Brock Bowers was remembering. They get in a rock fight against Auburn last year, and Bowers basically pulls them out of the jaws of life to win that game, so they sort of were playing with fire, but what like that last year was not a mirage,” the CFB insider added, calling this issue a “not Brock Bowers problem.”

If you don’t know, Beck completed 25 of 40 attempts for 309 yards and 2 TDs on Saturday. However, the first half saw 2 of his 3 interceptions. When Beck tried a daring sphere into a narrow window with 2 defenders close by in the first half, he was intercepted for the first time. In the 3rd quarter, he was hit under pressure, forcing a throw that led to a pop-up interception. Carson seems to have a decision-making problem based on this pattern of play, which could end Kirby Smart’s chance of success.

Carson Beck’s decision-making ability

The fact that Beck has recently struggled to manage the football raises worries. During his last four games, the senior has thrown eight picks, which are 2 more than what he has attempted during his time in college. During the triumph over the Longhorns, three of these were interceptions. But wait, I’ll show you another situation.

Have an interesting take?

In roughly 30 seconds, Beck can crack a Rubik’s cube. This remarkable ability was cited by his younger sister as evidence of his analytical abilities and capacity for problem-solving, which were also characteristics that made him an excellent QB. And in the past, Beck had shown himself to be trustworthy, able to read a defense, figure out the best-throwing stance, and make the right decision fast.

What’s the problem now? Perhaps the quarterback needs to work on his turnover problem, or the head coach needs to take more initiative to motivate the team to win. It could be anything. However, the program must win the remaining games in order to continue their winning streak. No space for mistakes. Let’s see if they can pull it off.
