Will Missouri lose their prized recruit to Texas A&M, or can they hold onto Lamont Rogers?

Is Missouri on the verge of losing its most valuable possession? OL Lamont Rogers’s 5-star rating from On3 on Monday makes him the lone top-ranked commit for the Tigers’ 2025 class, which currently has 16 commits on board. But it looks like the nation’s No. 5 OL is still weighing his choices with other programs, particularly this SEC school, which has the potential to make it to the college football playoffs.

Texas A&M is in a favorable position to flip Lamont Rogers’ commitment. On3 Recruits posted an episode of Wiltfong Whiparound on November 19, where Steve Wiltfong provided fresh intel on the No. 16 overall player. He reported, “Lamont Rogers, 5-star offensive lineman, committed to Missouri, was back at Texas A&M for his third game of the season in College Station. I like the way that’s trending for the Aggies for Lamont Rogers.”

At 6’7, 305 pounds, Lamont Rogers is an intimidating figure who is expected to make an immediate impact in college football. On3’s Chad Simmons said ahead of Texas A&M’s clash with New Mexico State—“The buzz remains positive around Mike Elko’s program to land the five-star offensive tackle out of Mesquite.” The Aggies boosted that buzz with a huge 38-3 win over NMSU.

Despite his commitment to Missouri on July 6, the Texas native’s recurrent visits to College Station only prove how hard Mike Elko is recruiting this formidable weapon. According to the latest On3 RPM update, Texas A&M has an 87.3% chance to flip Rogers’ commitment. And with the playoff hype that’s surrounding the Aggies, it’s not hard to see why the Horn HS standout is gravitating towards Elko’s program.

Have an interesting take?

Texas A&M is currently No. 15 in the AP Poll ranking, going 8-2 in the season. They’re currently tied with Texas at the top spot in the SEC with 5-1 each. ESPN’s Playoff Predictor predicts a 13% chance for Texas A&M to make it to the playoffs. Still, this will only happen if the Aggies win out the remaining games and emerge as an SEC champion.

Mike Elko still has two games left, starting with Auburn, who are struggling 4-6. We could let this game pass as a win, but it’s their season-ending game that takes up all the attention. They’ll lock horns with Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns on November 30 to determine their playoff destiny. Despite the warnings that Sark received, experts predict that the Aggies have only a 22% chance to upset No. 3 Texas. A loss in either game will upset their chances of a conference championship and their playoff hopes.
