Is Miller Moss right to question Caleb Williams, or is he just stirring the pot?

If you have to earn something by putting in effort, you always value it. USC head coach, Lincoln Riley, also believes in this concept. That is why Riley stated USC’s team captains will no longer be permanent, as he will apply a shifting philosophy. So, for the season opener against LSU, USC’s top five deserving players need to earn captain status week to week.

Not only inspires them to do good work but also enhances their leadership skill. The top five players chosen by Lincoln are Jonah Monheim, Kyron Hudson, Miller Moss, Akili Arnold, and Easton Mascarenas-Arnold. Among them, Miller Moss, the USC QB, recently took over as the starting quarterback after Caleb Williams left for the NFL. Not to forget, the QB strongly supported the decision taken by the head coach regarding captain rules.

On August 28, 2024, Jack Smith, USC ‘25 | Sports Broadcaster, posted Miller’s response on rotating captain each week on his X account. In this post, Miller mentioned, “Obviously, it’s an honor to go out there and represent our team anytime you have the opportunity to do that for USC. I think it’s an honor and a privilege,”. Alongside, he added, “It forces the guys that are initially representing the team and are pushed to the top to continue to be there. And I think that’s positive because we don’t want anyone in our program getting comfortable and resting on the fact that they have been anointed to a certain position.”. Therefore, he believed each and every week earning that position would be challenging for captains.

Despite throwing 384 yards with one touchdown, Caleb Williams struggled against UCLA. Although he was not the reason why the Trojans lost the game, but his stats felt empty. After that game, UCLA QB, Ethan Garbers, took to social media and mocked Williams by referencing a post made by Williams after the Trojans beat UCLA last season.

On this note, Williams said, “I honestly haven’t thought of anything like that,”. Alongside, Moss did not accept such disappointment of another championship-less season in college football. That is why the star QB, Moss, cut down to size another No.1 QB. Presently, Caleb is playing for the Chicago Bears in the NFL as a quarterback.
