The USC Trojans are having a difficult time bouncing back after their tough defeat against Maryland last week, making it challenging for them to keep their playoff hopes alive. However, even after having a hard time processing the loss, their star quarterback, Miller Moss, is in his self-assured persona after getting head coach Lincoln Riley’s assurance. But Miller’s recent statement is resonating similar confidence that Trojans former quarterback Caleb Williams carries within him.
On October 22, a USC Trojans beat writer took to X to share Miller Moss’ opinion regarding the difficulty the team has been facing for the past month because of the Trojans’ inconsistency in the game. However, Miller showed a very positive response to the whole situation, saying, “People, you know, seek a lot of negativity around our team, and it is what it is, and I hope they keep that same energy going forward.” But his positive attitude is resonating with NFL star Caleb Williams’ “Cocky Caleb Williams” incident. Caleb has been very vocal about his excellence in the field and never shy to mention them, but that gesture of his often comes out as overconfidence.

A few months back, Caleb Williams on The Pivot Podcast talking about his gameplay gave a very straightforward statement, saying, “If you look at the stats, and on average, I am the most dead center even dude for scrambling and throwing in the pocket… I am the farthest from all of them in every single way. I can do anything and everything as I want and as my team needs.” His overconfidence gave him the titles “cocky” and “arrogant.” And now that Miller Moss is also taking up more or less the same approach after head coach Lincoln Riley trusted in him even after an upsetting performance against Mary Land last week. Will come into that later; for now, let’s see what more Miller Moss has to say about his the current situation of the team.
In the above-mentioned tweet, Miller Moss also talked about the Trojans’ situation after four consecutive losses in the ongoing season and how he is trying to cope with all the negativity. Miller said, “You either go back to work and, you know, kind of navigate that pain of what it takes to get yourself back up, or you quit, and that’s painful, too. So I think, you know, we’re all faced with a choice when we, you know, face difficult times. And I think you know who you are when you make that choice, which says a lot about who you are.” Well, Moss’s words and body language showed a lot about his budding self-assurance; let’s finally break some ice on the reason behind it.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Miller Moss's confidence a sign of leadership or just another case of overconfidence like Caleb Williams?
Have an interesting take?
Miller Moss’ poor execution against Maryland was quite evident throughout their game. Even after running for 336 yards with three touchdowns, Miller messed up his passing game. During the third quarter, Moss forced a pass to Trojans wide receiver Zachariah Branch, but unfortunately, the pass was intercepted by Maryland’s defensive back Lavain Scruggs, who returned the pick for 51 yards. This was the game-changing moment for the Trojans, landing them a close loss of 28-29 against the Terrapins.
However, even after Lincoln Riley showcased his immense trust in Miller Moss’s gameplay, he will remain the starting quarterback for the USC Trojans. Confirming the news, Riley said, “Of course 100%” on Miller’s stats on the team. Let’s see if he can meet Lincoln’s expectations or if the growing self-confidence will lead to a negative outcome for Miller.
