Even Deion Sanders can't save FSU—Is it time to clean house and start fresh?

Is this the end of Mike Norvell in Florida State? Earlier in May, speculations surfaced that if Mike Norvell gets another coaching offer from a bigger conference, Deion Sanders could be the next FSU head coach. But the offer may have to wait as the Seminoles are getting stomped this season in a mess that even Deion Sanders who took the reins of a 1-11 program cannot fix.

Unlike Colorado, where there is a star QB in Shedeur Sanders, FSU is struggling with QB authority, a problem Deion Sanders never faced as his QB had always been his son. This, in addition to the other holes in FSU, has pushed one ESPN Analyst to rate the Seminoles’s situation as “Panic!

Elle and Gary came together to discuss Florida State’s sad plight in a new ESPN on YouTube on September 17. In connection with speculations about Deion Sanders’ potential hop to FSU after this season in Colorado, Elle took a dig at both Mike Norvell’s program and Deion Sanders saying, “[Florida State] has so many more problems than I think Deion can ever solve.”

This is what Elle’s warning about Deion Sanders on The Elle Duncan Show could mean. Last season, FSU was snubbed off of the CFP game despite a 13-0 record. But this season has gone downhill as they get ready for Week 4 with a 0-3 record so far. Oregon transfer QB DJ Uiagalelei was named the starter over existing backup Brock Glenn but he isn’t exhibiting his mastery over the game recording 666 yards and one touchdown so far this season. In addition, FSU is also struggling with the same problem which took up most of the offseason for Deion Sanders to put right.

FSU faces a heartbreaking season entry

Let this statement from July by former ESPN insider Phil Steele sink in. “Last year FSU has 206 career starts back on the O-line and went a perfect 13-0 winning the ACC. This year they have 187 career starts and coach Norvell told me that this could be his best O-line ever as it is the deepest they have been.” Sadly, their performance is speaking otherwise.

After Week 3’s 20-12 loss to Memphis, FSU became the first top-10 program to suffer three consecutive defeats from unranked teams. Their O-line allowed eight sacks this season which is the fourth most in the ACC. Elle and Gary aren’t the only skeptical ones here. Greg McElroy also said on Always College Football, “Everybody loves to hate Florida State, and that’s fine. Florida State’s just not a good football team.” While the possibility is unlikely about Deion Sanders coming to FSU, could he be able to turn this mess around which already has Mike Norvell in a hot seat?
