It appears that Florida State’s head coach, Mike Norvell, has found himself in yet another challenging situation following their 11-35 loss to North Carolina today. This has reignited the discussion surrounding Norvell’s approach to coaching and has raised numerous questions about his style. However, the most surprising criticism came from someone closely associated with the team, who emphasized the importance of Norvell stepping down from his position to safeguard Florida State’s future.

Today Florida State’s insider Brian Smith took to X, expressing his rage over Mike Norvell and the way he is handling the program. Smith said, “Norvell should turn in his resignation. The lack of effort by several Noles is a reflection of his poor leadership. #FireNorvell | #FSU | #Noles” Well, not only Smith took a straightforward approach but also highlighted the fact that he should give up his $63 million buyout as Florida State’s condition is getting worse day by day under his supervision.

However, getting Mike Norvell out of the program is not that straight. If the team decides to terminate his contract, they have to pay him a significant sum of $63 million, which accounts for 85% of his salary and will expire in the year 2031. Till then, Florida State might reach some other level of downfall under him. So now the ball is in Norvell’s court. But the question is, will he give away an amount like that?

Florida State, along with its torchbearer, finds itself living out its worst nightmares in reality. This season has proven to be one of the roughest in the history of the Seminoles under the guidance of Mike Norvell. The team currently finds itself on an eight-game losing streak in the ongoing season. It’s difficult to fathom that this is the same team that went almost undefeated last year, going 8-0 in conference play and finishing 13-1 overall under Norvell’s leadership.

As a stark contrast to these records, the Florida State’s offense struggled mightily against North Carolina in today’s game, as they managed a mere 42 rushing yards. And offense was bad beyond imagination; the team was unable to protect their quarterback and ended up allowing seven sacks throughout the game. Now you can understand why there has been an urge to take down Mike Norvell this season. Even Norvell addressed Florida State’s weak gameplay, saying, “Obviously very disappointing outcome.” Well, this statement could have made any difference if the team was in its 3rd or 4th loss, but after facing a series of losses, it’s not disappointing; it’s concerning.
