Mike Norvell had faith in his boys entering the season; as he said in July, “This has been arguably the best offseason I’ve ever been a part of.” But what happened next, we all know, must be disappointing, as they lost back-to-back three games in the 2024 college football season. When FSU was getting ready for today’s game against Cal, Norvell found himself under high pressure, with the possibility of being fired from his coaching position. Winning the game against Cal helped Norvell relax a bit as he sent a message to the crowd watching the game.
Florida State earned its first victory of the 2024 college football season on Saturday. Florida State is on cloud nine right now after a splendid 14-9 win over the California Golden Bears with the contributions of their star quarterback, DJ Uiagalelei who completed 16-27 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown. After their win, head coach Mike Norvell is all over the headlines.
An FSU insider recently shared an ‘X’ post stating Norvell’s remarks about the game. In his tweet, he wrote, “Norvell calls the energy from the crowd here at Doak “remarkable”. Says all those Cal false starts go directly to the FSU in attendance.” He concluded the tweet by stating Norvell’s comments after they won the most expected game.

The Seminoles were unbeaten (13-0) champions of the Atlantic Coast Conference before getting snubbed for the college football playoff. They entered the 2024 season ranked 10th in the US LBM coaches poll and there were high odds of them contending for the playoff and an aim to win the ACC championship for the second time in a row. However, after losing three games, his position as Florida State head coach was at risk, which included a $84 million contract.
Norvell signed this extended contract back in January, which was extended for 10 years, summing to a total value of $84 million. Amidst all, if there had to be a buyout of Mike Norvell’s contract, the Seminoles would be at a high loss. Norvell would be paid $65 million or the sum of 85% of his base salary, either of the two. However, don’t you think Florida State’s performance in the game against California will cause this condition to be reversed? Let’s look at the highlights of the game again.
Mike Norvell’s Florida State’s performance against California
In the game between Florida State and the California Golden Bears throughout the first half, both teams struggled offensively. However, within a short time, Florida State took charge of the game with their first touchdown in the first quarter. After which California replied with a field goal, making the score 7-3 at halftime.
