Have hope for unforeseen progress, a shift could happen to you at any moment. Trust it. Mike Norvell of FSU would think so and see the outcome right now. In 2024, he had a challenging season with a 2–10 overall record. But in 2023, the team saw a No. 1 ACC team with a 13-1 record under Norvell. Thus, it demonstrates that a head coach’s coaching ability cannot be determined by a single season. And it appears that the football community’s top prospects share this belief. Based on that belief, it appears that those prospects still believe in Mike Norvell.
Four-star defensive end James “JJ” Johnson of North Fort Myers recently went to FSU’s Junior Day event, which was his first time on campus, according to his most recent tweet. When Johnson visited, he spoke with defensive line coach Terrance Knighton and head coach Mike Norvell. In his description of Coach Norvell’s unique recruiting style, he pointed out that Norvell had pledged to “pursue” him rather than just recruit him, a statement that Johnson found striking.

FOUR STAR DL TALKS @FSUFootball

Explaining that distinctive recruiting pitch, James Johnson said to Warchant TV, “Today he said he wasn’t going to recruit me, he was going to pursue me. All right! He was different than all the other coaches trying to like to recruit again, so I like that’s about him.” A small act of goodness can have a significant impact. Hope this resonates with Norvell’s recruiting appeal.
The visit improved Johnson’s opinion of FSU and raised the school’s profile in his eyes when it came to hiring. In March, he intends to come back to Tallahassee to watch spring practices and interact with the coaching staff even more. He is not alone, though, as several elite talents have recently visited FSU.
To people who undervalue the coach and his abilities based on a single season, it appears to be a strong statement from Mike Norvell. The top prospect’s visit, which demonstrates how these prospects still believe Mike Norvell and will play for him in 2026, underlines the assertion. But Norvell’s distinctive recruiting pitch deserves all the praise.

What’s Mike Norvell’s unique recruiting pitch all about?
Despite of a poor played season, significant roster changes have been made by FSU as of January 19 in anticipation of the forthcoming season. 31 new players have joined the squad since the January enrollment period began, including two junior college players, 13 high school recruits, and 16 transfers. In addition, there are two junior college transfers, five three-star prospects, and eleven four-star recruits in the recruiting class. For a program like FSU, which finished as the top ACC team in 2023, you would believe this is insufficient. However, there has been increased visits for the program.
One of them is William Amos Hough High School cornerback Samari “Smoke” Matthews. He said, “Had a great visit at@FSUFootball today🍢,” as the caption for his visit on his X. In addition to this, there is the 6′ 6″ and 290-pound offensive lineman from Calvary Christian High School. Mike Ionata wrote, “Had A Great Time At Florida State University Will Be Back Soon🍢🍢‼️.” It’s not over yet. Izayia Williams, a 4-star linebacker in the class of 2026, is having a great time with Mike Norvell during his visit on Junior Day, as per his tweet.
