Can Michigan's NIL power play really outshine Alabama's legacy in the recruiting game?

An eye for an eye! Sherrone Moore is back with a fitting comeback at Alabama. Kalen DeBoer managed to flip Michigan’s 4-star safety Ivan Taylor earlier this week, much to the heartbreak of fans. But the Wolverines aren’t done yet. If there’s one recruitment technique that Michigan is known for, it’s them playing with NIL dough! And they’re targeting one of the Crimson Tide’s valuable commits the same way they’re tempting the nation’s top prospect of the 2025 class.

Michigan Sports Talk presented huge recruitment news for Michigan on November 21 as they prepare for Week 13. They’re in a good position to lure the nation’s No. 4 OT Ty Haywood, a 5-star Alabama commit. He’s currently ranked as the No. 20 overall player according to 247Sports. The latest YouTube episode reported that “Michigan is making a late push for him and is making a major NIL run at Haywood so this could potentially be some big news.”

Michigan offered Ty Haywood in February before his ultimate decision to join Kalen DeBoer in Tuscaloosa in July. While he hasn’t visited Ann Arbor yet, the communication was there all along. On3 EJ Holland reported that the blue-chip player was expected to pay a “surprise” visit to Michigan’s upcoming game against Northwestern. But it’s later revealed that the Ryan HS standout has a playoff game on Saturday.

If Michigan lands Ty Haywood, they will have a formidable offense next year. Sherrone Moore has already signed elite commits like 5-star No. 3 Andrew Babalola and 4-star Avery Gach. With early signing day just two weeks away, can the Wolverines succeed in their plan to flip the 6’5, 285-pounder with a significant NIL deal too good to pass? We already know what kind of money Michigan plays with after their expensive pursuit of Bryce Underwood

Sherrone Moore continues to push for Bryce Underwood

You might already know, but Michigan sources call it “the most well-founded Michigan NIL operation since the NIL Era began in July 2021.Nearly a month ago, Michigan made waves with their NIL-funded pursuit of the nation’s No. 1 player Bryce Underwood. As Holland reported, the Wolverines offered the LSU commit “north of 5 mil” to flip to Ann Arbor.

Michigan Sports Talk assured that Michigan is still in the chase for the No. 1 QB. “They’ve been going after Bryce Underwood, the current LSU commit, which by the way Michigan, they are still fighting. They are not done yet with Bryce Underwood. They’re still very much alive in that recruitment.” Despite going 5-5, Michigan has compiled the 11th-best recruiting class in 2025 with 18 commits which includes one 5-star commit, 10 4-star players, and seven 3-star commits. Winning the commitments of two more 5-star players could up their recruiting rankings to the top 5. But we’ll see what the weeks ahead bring us.
