Michigan’s ‘secret weapon’. Now that’s a tag not a lot of people get. Greg Harden was a legend when it came down to shaping up Michigan. Often credited for being one of the main figures behind NFL legend Tom Brady and his success, Harden unfortunately passed away on September 13th. Spending 34 years with UM, Harden made sure that the players reached their top potential. The untimely passing of the beloved athletics counselor and life coach was because of a certain surgery-related complication that happened on Friday morning after Harden was rushed to the hospital.

So, to honor his memory, Wolverines’ new savior QB Alex Orji had to quote Harden’s book in one of his Instagram posts. “Staying Sane in an Insane World. Miss u, G💙” Orji wrote in the caption of his post. This quickly managed to catch JJ McCarthy’s attention, who left a heart in the comment box of the post. It’s kind of poetic to watch 2 of Michigan’s best QBs connecting like this. McCarthy and former HC Jim Harbaugh were the golden pair of the Wolverines. Leading a 15-win season last year, the Wolverines were on top of the charts. However, it didn’t take long for the kingdom to crumble. With Harbaugh and McCarthy both leaving for the NFL, all the responsibilities fell on Sherrone Moore’s shoulders and he was a disappointment.

The main problem started when Moore made the terrible choice of picking Davis Warren as the starting QB for the team. When you have someone like Alex Orji, who had closely followed McCarthy, would you pick Warren? Moore realized his mistakes when the Wolverines lost against the Longhorns. This made Moore bring in Orji to save the dream. And to say that the guy delivered would be an understatement.

Saving the dream, one play at a time

While Warren did do his best against AR State with 3 interceptions and 11-14 connected passes, it was Alex Orji who brought in the real spark. Orji was brought in during the 3rd quarter, and the dude went ballistic. Grabbing a 9-play 80-yard drive, Orji managed to connect with a 9-yard pass. This allowed the Wolverines to easily go 3-out on its next 2 drives. Even Moore had to agree that Orji managed to revive the game. “He did a good job managing it and taking care of the football, which is the No. 1 thing we want our quarterback to do,” Moore had noted during the post-game conference.

However, all of this does raise a good question. Will Moore continue to play Warren, or will Orji finally get a chance to grab the spotlight? Warren did earn the starting QB title with his passing games during the preseason practice. However, the turnovers he had given during the Fresno State and Longhorns games made Moore scratch his head. At this point, we gotta wait and see who the HC decides to bring out against USC. Let us know who you think would be the better QB for the Wolverines.
