Will Sherrone Moore's rivalry roots give Michigan the edge over Texas in this high-stakes showdown?

The preparation is not any different!” said Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore as the clock ticks for the upcoming Texas versus Michigan playoff. This game is going to be a rare sight because it’s almost been two decades since these two teams met, dating back to 2005’s Rose Bowl. No wonder the ‘big house’ will turn into a battlefield for Texas and Michigan fans. Moreover, the fun part is looking at the rival coach, Sherrone Moore, and QB Quinn Ewers’ taking sharp jibes at each other, fueling up their long-term rivalry.

Michigan insider Trevor McCue shared a Twitter post stating his view on the 2024 season, week 2 game between the Michigan Wolverines and the Texas Longhorns, which will be held on September 7th, Saturday, at the Michigan Stadium. His tweet reads, “A fun part of this Texas vs. Michigan game is the ties to the other side of the rivalry. Sherrone Moore is an Oklahoma alum and does not need to be taught to hate Texas. On top of that, Trevor further described Texas’s situation by writing, “Quinn Ewers still calls Michigan, that team up north, from his stint in Columbus.” There, he talked about Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, who had previously enrolled in Ohio.

Sherrone Moore’s other layer of this rivalry is his being an Oklahoma alum. Texas is a traditional rival of Sherrone’s alma mater. Added to that, Moore also believes that Texas is a strong team and after Michigan’s first-week performance, he even talked about it. He told the media that Michigan’s defense needs improvements ahead of the game against Texas. In a recent interview, Moore showcased confidence in his offense, saying, “We got a lot of other weapons. Take away Loveland; they’ll have to deal with Semaj, Tyler Morris, Kendrick Bell, and Marlin and the run game, so they can’t take away it all.” Given Moore’s statements, it’s crystal clear Michigan is full of energy to face this game and in a mood to win it. However, Texas also feels the same.

Quinn Ewers’ comments on Sherrone Moore’s team

On the other side, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, who played for Ohio State before shifting his commitment to the Longhorns, calls Michigan “that team up,” which is a common slang among Buckeyes fans while referring to Michigan. Quinn’s development from a Buckeyes quarterback to Texas adds another reason for his dislike of Michigan. Given Quinn’s fantastic performance during Texas’s season opener game, completing 20-27 passes for 260 yards with three touchdowns, it is no wonder Texas may steal the show.

However, the upcoming game might be a chance for Michigan fans to get over their trauma from 2005’s Rose Bowl, where Texas triumphed with a 38-37 victory. Sherrone Moore even called this a “measuring stick” game for underdog Michigan. What happens next, time will tell. Meanwhile, drop your thoughts on the game. Who do you think will win the game?
