Did Michigan's coaching staff gamble too much on Tuttle's potential despite his lackluster track record?

Michigan Wolverines seventh-year quarterback Jack Tuttle was born on April 28, 1999, and previously played for the Indiana Hoosiers and Utah Utes. The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder was part of the 2023 Michigan’s national championship team. But why all this info? We’re recalling all of it because isn’t it weird for a 25-year-old to play at the collegiate level where players as young as 17 years of age are also playing? He should have been in the league. Don’t you think? Well, that’s his choice, but a Michigan insider discussed the same thing, pointing out Sherrone Moore‘s mistake to put Tuttle into their week 8 game as the starter QB.

Hope you all have not already forgotten all the hype that was surrounding Jack Tuttle when Sherrone Moore listed him to play in the game against Illinois, but he lived up to that hype. Let’s learn what James has to say on the latest episode of Michigan Football Report with James Yoder.

“He turns 26 in 2025; he’s in his seventh year of college, and I think this is his third start at quarterback. Now why do you think that if someone was on the college football team for seven seasons and has started three games?” Yeah, he got a point. Although we can’t access all the insider info, this one is interesting to think about, especially after yesterday’s game.

Moving forward, the analyst said, “They go back to Davis Warren. Warren, what the hell about being more confident? It’s not like Tuttle’s not turning the ball over, right? Just look at this. But it hit this way, fumbling the ball down there was over the ball. The interceptions were so pathetic. They were so junior varsity level.”

He talked about Jack Tuttle’s first start of the season and, in his first game, he had one interception and one fumble. We’ll see even Tuttle calling out his performance, “terrible and embarrassing!”

Then the analyst calls out Michigan’s offensive coordinator, Kirk Campbell, saying, “These coaches sat there with their smug little faces. sherrone Moore said, and Kirk Campbell said, we don’t need a quarterback, right? This is back in April. The spring transfer portal is open. We feel good with the guys that we have on the field. Oh really. Oh, you do? You felt good with the guys on the roster back in April?”

What’s your perspective on:

Did Michigan's coaching staff gamble too much on Tuttle's potential despite his lackluster track record?

Have an interesting take?

It was a wild take by James Yoder! Only an insider can call out the team he supports like this. Last year was different; that time, they had Jim Harbaugh; this year, Sherrone Moore is being targeted as he didn’t enrol in top commits. This mistake will cost them even in their upcoming season as well. After witnessing a pathetic game from the Tuttle, is Sherrone Moore up for another QB change?

Who’ll be replacing Jack Tuttle?

Although Sherrone Moore had immense faith in Tuttle‘s two weeks of prep, it failed to seal the deal. When Michigan fell 7-21 against Illinois, Moore wasn’t impressed with Tuttle’s performance. “Overall, offensively, it was not good enough at all. Jack can’t turn the ball over. When we’ve got guys open, we’ve got to complete those passes. Just go to be better,” Moore said.

Neither di Tuttle gain much passing yards, nor did he score a drive before coughing up the ball. He even had a pick-six. Overall, he completed 20 of 32 passes for 208 yards, but he missed open receivers; it looked like he was clueless about a larger part of Saturday’s game. Apart from that, Moore has given chances to Davis Warren and Alex Orji each for two starts before benching them.

However, looking at Tuttle’s last-day performance, Moore is not in the mood to go along with him for their next game. But if not Warren, Orji, or Tuttle, who can he count on? For the upcoming game against Minnesota State, Sherrone Moore can either pick junior Jayden Denegal or true freshman Jayden Davis. These two hold high chances.
