Is Michigan's confidence against Ohio State justified, or are they setting themselves up for disappointment?

With the massive Ohio State game just around the corner, Michigan QB Davis Warren knows it’s now or never. Feeling the heat, he’s turned to a Wolverines legend for some sage advice. After all, who better to learn from than someone who’s been there, done that, and knows exactly what it takes to win the big one? With an unwavering determination to start off strong, Warren is leaving no aspect unexplored, ensuring he is fully prepared for when the decisive moment arrives.

Well, the Michigan Wolverines have a three-year record of beating the Ohio State Buckeyes, but this year the team has their own struggles. But even then, head coach Sherrone Moore and quarterback Davis Warren are sure that the team might take down the Buckeyes. Delusional right? Not when star player JJ McCarthy is there to rescue the team.

Before Michigan’s much-anticipated rivalry game, Davis Warren is planning to get some advice from him. In a recent press conference, he said, “Just like I’m going to talk to JJ this week, get some tips and tricks. I know they’re they’ve been talking to and keep talking to those guys that have, you know, moved on the next level and understand how important this game is and how it starts with them. I think that confidence is going to show on Saturday.” Who better to give Davis Warren some pointers than JJ McCarthy? The former Michigan star QB, who led the Wolverines to an undefeated championship season, is now thriving in the NFL with a massive $21.85 million contract with the Vikings. So, when it comes to advice on how to beat Ohio State, who else would you trust?

Well, in 2022, JJ McCarthy gave an exceptional performance against the Ohio State Buckeyes when no one trusted his gut. In the game, JJ threw three touchdowns and secured a rushing score. All those passes were pretty long scores of 69, 75, and 45 yards. After his execution, even Gus Johnson appreciated him, saying, “They said the kid couldn’t throw the deep ba-l.” It’s been a habit for Michigan when people doubt them the most; they put up their best game. This happened with Davis Warren, too.

One such instance of Davis Warren’s remarkable gameplay is in Michigan’s last game against Northwestern Wildcats. Warren threw for 195 yards, completing 26 out of 35 pass attempts. This is the same guy whose career was in jeopardy, but that couldn’t hold him back. Now the results are pretty loud and clear.

Davis Warren’s dedication to the team

When people doubt you the most, it can be tough to keep your emotions in check. However, in the case of Davis Warren, he used it as his biggest learning tool and made a remarkable comeback in the game. In most cases, when players are benched, they tend to switch teams and find better options just to increase their track records, but with Warren, that’s not the case.

Even head coach Sherrone Moore appreciates his selfless gesture after their game against the Northwestern Wildcats, saying, “I mean just what a selfless guy first because when you’re the starter and you get benched, you can easily have a selfless negative attitude, and he was the complete opposite.”

We all know Moore benched Davis Warren after his unsettling performance against Arkansas, where he threw 3 interceptions against the team. However, this could not shake his will or bitter his mind about the program; rather, he patiently waited for his chance to shine and also made a notable impact in the game. Now that the young quarterback is going up against their rivals next week, it will be interesting to see if Warren can keep his magic on the field like he did against the Northwestern Wildcats or lands up in a big misery.
