Just a sophomore, and this one is already turning heads. Yes, tall, loud, and full of swagger, this 6-foot-5, 261-pound Michigan edge rusher is built for big moments. Right now, he might not start this fall—but he’ll be on the field. And that’s just how the Wolverines operate. Their blueprint? Rotate talent and keep the pressure coming. However, in the ReliaQuest Bowl win over Alabama, this edge rusher showed flashes of greatness—racking up two tackles and forcing a fumble. Pure grit. As of now, with Josiah Stewart gone, there’s a spot open—and he’s coming for it. Following that, he’s sending a message to OSU and Bama: We’re coming, and we don’t back down.

Well, after ending last season with a bang, Michigan edge rusher Dominic Nichols is riding high. Because the Wolverines stunned Alabama with a gritty 19–13 win in the ReliaQuest Bowl. However, it wasn’t just a win—it was a statement. And Nichols? He made his presence felt. While his impact was huge, his confidence was even bigger. As of now, this spring, he’s moving with purpose—fueled by what he and his teammates accomplished on that field. And then came April 7th. Touchdown Alabama Magazine (TDA) dropped a post that featured Nichols throwing bold shade at Bama and OSU.

Dominic Nichols isn’t holding back—and he’s got every reason not to. Look, after helping Michigan take down two giants, the swagger is real. First, they kept their winning streak alive against their arch-rival Buckeyes with a 13-10 victory, and then they stunned SEC powerhouse Alabama last season. But now? They’re walking into the spring ball with fire. “We went from whooping Ohio State’s (expletive) to whooping Alabama, too. You just roll into spring ball with that, and you go in feeling confident about yourself. It’s easy to make plays when you’re confident, and it’s hard to make plays when you’re not confident,” said Dominic Nichols. Honestly, that’s the kind of energy that fuels a championship run.

This fall, Michigan’s edge room is stacked with experience. However, seniors Derrick Moore and TJ Guy are set to lead the charge. But behind them? The future is already knocking. Yes, Cameron Brandt and Dominic Nichols have the coaches fired up. These two young guns are buzzing with potential. Among them, Nichols got his feet wet as a freshman. He saw action in 4 regular-season games, then returned for the bowl game—where he showed he’s ready for more. He not only forced a fumble but also racked up 2 tackles in that intense Bowl game against Bama. Plus, having seen action in high-stakes matchups against Washington, Minnesota, and Illinois, he’s primed and ready for what’s next. You can say the torch is being passed—and he’s ready to run with it.

I want to be (the next guy up). I’m looking to get in that rotation, have myminutes,s and have my stats this year,” stated the standout edge rusher. You know, Dominic Nichols came to Michigan as a low-key 3-star from Frederick. However, he saw the strong edge rusher legacy and bought in, having watched stars like Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo set the standard. And now, after learning from vets like Josiah Stewart and Derrick, it’s his turn.

Sherrone Moore sees it too—naming Nichols and Brandt right alongside the starters this spring. Let’s be real, while Michigan’s got 4 dogs on the edge, Nichols is ready to eat. While Nichols is gearing up to shine this spring, HC Moore has bold plans brewing for Bryce Underwood. Looks like the future at Michigan isn’t just bright—it’s electric.

Michigan’s next chapter!

The 2026 recruiting cycle has gotten off to a slow start for Michigan—but no panic in Ann Arbor. Inside the program, there’s quiet confidence. And coaches believe the class will still land in the top 10 when it’s all said and done. But while some fans grow restless, the staff is playing the long game. They’re not just focused on ‘26 either; work on the 2027 class is already rolling. And it all starts with a QB. Look, locking in a top talent early can set the tone for the entire cycle. As of now, Michigan has its eyes on three elite prospects—names they have a real shot at landing. Honestly, with Bryce Underwood already in the fold, it looks like the blueprint is coming together.

First up: 2026 dual-threat QB Nathan Bernhard. According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, Michigan holds the “upper hand” in his recruitment. That’s huge—especially considering Bernhard lives in Ohio and has strong family ties to the Buckeyes. Yes, several of his siblings attended OSU. But don’t count Michigan out. In fact, it might be his dream. “It’s big time, grew up around the rivalry and it was a big part of my childhood… If you get the opportunity to play at Michigan, it’s big. I’ve been around the rivalry, went to a lot of Michigan–Ohio State games, that is important to me,” said Bernhard. So, he’s seen The Game from both sides, and now, he could be writing the next chapter—in maize and blue.

Next up: two names lighting up the 2027 quarterback scene. Well, Trae Taylor, standing 6’3″ and 186 pounds, is a true game-changer. The Carmel Catholic QB has got a cannon for an arm and the shiftiness to extend plays on the move—all while keeping his eyes locked downfield. Then there’s Elijah Haven—the current No. 1 QB and overall prospect in the 2027 class. At 6’5″, and 215 pounds, he’s a polished pro-style passer with elite upside. So, two different styles, but one thing in common: game-breaking talent. With those targets on the radar, Underwood’s future at Michigan is looking seriously bright, and they’ve got some talented backups waiting in the wings too.
