The transfer portal. A gateway for new opportunities. And now it’s open. Usually, it’s players seeking a new fortune who enter the portal and USC QB Miller Moss is one of them. After carrying a tremendous pressure as Caleb Williams’ replacement, he announced his decision to “move on to new opportunities.” He’s already an experienced 4-star QB with one last year of eligibility remaining and one of the hottest prospects in the portal. And a warning for those programs vying for his attention, he’s the kind of haul that interests Sherrone Moore and Michigan.
Steve Wiltfong is back with fresh recruiting intel on Miller Moss in a new YouTube episode on On3 Recruits on December 10. The latest update falls in favor of Sherrone Moore who has been surprisingly successful in recruitment in his first HC debut. He said, “You have two early front runners for him right now. You have Missouri and you have the Louisville Cardinals. But we’ll see if some other programs emerge. I could see Michigan really taking a swing at Miller Moss as well.”

About a week ago, ESPN‘s Pete Thamel reported that Miller Moss “is expected to look at Michigan, Auburn, Iowa, and Louisville” as potential landing spots. His transfer decision came after USC HC Lincoln Riley benched him in favor of transfer QB Jayden Maiava. But now, Michigan is locked in the race and we might see another beneficial haul.
Despite a low season, Sherrone Moore managed to round up a top 10 recruiting class of 2025 consisting of 23 commits. The highlight of their recruitment is flipping No. 1 overall player Bryce Underwood from LSU. Now that the Wolverines need not worry about their QB problem, could Miller Moss find what he’s looking for in Ann Arbor?

Will Miller Moss get playing time in Michigan?
That’s Sherrone Moore’s call but Michigan has a way of developing its freshman players. The Wolverines got the best QB in the nation fresh out of high school. But maybe they might put a veteran ahead of Bryce Underwood to guide him in his debut season just as they did with their national championship QB JJ McCarthy in 2021.
McCarthy was put behind Cade McNamara as a freshman, but he got ample playing time without having to bear the weight of pressure that a full-time starter faces. Their strategy was a success. He went on to become one of the best QBs to join the NFL as a first-round pick this year. It doesn’t hurt to hope a similar pattern could repeat.

After all, Miller Moss proved that he’s an able QB. He completed 64% of his passes for 2,555 yards and 19 touchdowns in nine games. It’ll be interesting to see if Michigan can charm this elite prospect because even Colorado could be in the mix.
