Now there was a time when a lot had been happening in Sherrone Moore’s Michigan Wolverines. We are talking about their big win against Ohio State in Columbus last season. Post which Moore got rid of their offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell. Thanks to that shake-up. The maize and blue now have their new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey.
As much as Moore’s program is lucky to have Lindsey around, the coach too feels proud to be part of the Michigan fam. Now that’s when Bryce Underwood enters the chat as Lindsey comes up with an eye-opening statement for the No.1 recruit, days after the Wolverines HC came up with an unthinkable move for Underwood.

Chip Lindsey’s first impression of Bryce Underwood
Okay, so this is not at all surprising the treatment that Underwood is receiving right now. After all, not to forget Moore and co. had put in their blood, sweat, and tears to snatch away the No.1 recruit from Brian Kelly. While the HC’s love for his favorite QB is known almost to all, what about the new coach in the hood? On February 19, Lindsey took part in his first interview as the Michigan OC. He joined Jon Jansen on the In the Trenches Podcast. As Lindsey steps in Ann Arbor he now has his own challenges. As hinted on the podcast, the biggest of them all is having to coach players belonging to different levels.

Lindsey has Underwood, Jaydyn Davis, and Mikey Kenee. The coach got hit up with an interesting question. The host asked, “How difficult is it to coach to a freshman and not even talk about names, and a sophomore versus a guy that’s coming in with the experience like a Mikey Keene has?” Seems like it’s not quite a problem for Lindsey. As he stated, “I think, I think you approach them the same. I mean, we’re going to coach them all the same. Expectations are the same.” That’s when he went on talking about Underwood and how the craze that surrounds him stops people from witnessing how the QB is in real life.
“Bryce, getting to know him has been unbelievable. I mean, the, the guy’s as humble and driven as I’ve seen, and people from the outside may not see that or know that because all the hype that goes with it.” That’s how Underwood has already wooed the coach prior to any gridiron action. In a way, Lindsey looks pretty sorted with how he is going to develop Underwood. “I think consistency sticks out to me is getting those guys, physically being able to get their bodies in position all the time to be really accurate and know where to go with the b- -l, and know where issues are in protections,” stated the coach. This confirms his plan, at least initially. He is going to rotate reps evenly among Underwood, Davis, and Keene, giving each guy a chance to work with the team’s top playmakers. Meanwhile, Moore is already fortifying the fortress for Underwood.

Sherrone Moore’s safety net for Bryce Underwood
When it’s Underwood, the QB deserves some special treatment. After all, as per On3 rankings, he comes off as the first-ever perfect, 100-score recruit. So, Moore is taking baby steps to form a roster that would bring them back to the 2023 golden days. As per the reports, the Wolverines now have 8 4-star WR recruits in the mix. As analyst Ethan McDowell tweeted, “The Wolverines are putting a lot of effort into surrounding Bryce Underwood with talented pass catchers. I like where U-M stands with guys like CJ Sadler and Nalin Scott.”
That’s how Michigan is trying to make things easier for Underwood to unleash his best potential without worrying about falling prey to injury. Leading Moore’s charge are two potential game-changers. Standing tall at 6’3”, Nalin Scott has two powers- his forte lies in elite catch radius and his red-zone dominance. CJ Sadler, Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech’s four-star wide receiver. The athlete comes off as a powerful weapon who could thrive in the program’s offensive vision.

Then there is Travis Johnson, the 6-3 target receiver out of Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith High. So all these are only and only for Bryce Underwood who is already drawing comparisons with big shots. As 247 Sports’ Clint Brewster shared, “It’s going to be impossible to keep Underwood off the field, and I would expect him to have a similar impact as some other talented freshman signal-callers we’ve seen in the past like Terrelle Pryor and Jalen Hurts.” Jalen Hurts was the No.1 dual-threat quarterback in the 2016 class. While Terrelle Pryor was the No.1 recruit in the 2008 class. So, Underwood has the brains and the backing—Michigan’s coaching crew is set to launch him into stardom.
