LSU may boast the commitment of 4-star WR Derek Meadows but they can’t get their guard down. The 6’6, 205-pounder committed to Brian Kelly and the Tigers back in July, among other elite programs. But that didn’t stop relentless teams like Michigan, which continues to make a hot pursuit for the No. 11 WR and No. 80 overall prospect of the 2025 recruiting class. But there’s one non-Power 4 team who’s among the top pursuers for Meadows’ commitment.
A new YouTube episode on On3 Recruits on November 5 delved into the recruitment progress of Derek Meadows. Steve Wiltfong believes that the Bishop Gorman HS star is visiting schools to ensure he makes the right decision. But the upcoming Notre Dame visit could hold more than what meets the eye. Wiltfong said, “There’s confidence around Notre Dame. Derek Meadows. They’ve led for a lot of his recruitment before LSU surged in the summer. They’ll be excited to get him back to Southbend on Saturday night.”
The upcoming visit to Notre Dame will mark Derek Meadows’ fourth visit to the program. It would be easy to believe his interest lies here but he still remains a solid LSU commit. But they’re not alone in trying to flip this valuable commitment because Michigan is at it too. Just like they’re trying to flip LSU commit 5-star QB Bryce Underwood with a lucrative $5M NIL deal.

Derek Meadows had been in attendance at Michigan’s last defeat against No. 1 Oregon. The Wolverines have a slight edge considering that the family of this coveted prospect has ties with Michigan as fans. Wiltfong also added, “If Michigan’s able to pull some magic off and land Bryce Underwood, that would certainly help them in the Derek Meadows sweepstakes.” But still, Notre Dame is in a very good position to lure this attractive prospect.
Notre Dame is in a prime position to attract Derek Meadows
“Notre Dame in prime position here as they battle LSU going into this weekend’s visit in South Bend,” Wiltfong said. The fact is that Derek Meadows hasn’t been to Baton Rouge this fall. And so far, Notre Dame is the best performer among the three teams pursuing Derek Meadows.
Notre Dame hasn’t seen a successful 7-1 record going into November since 2021. They now top the AP Poll at No. 10 after their last dominant 51-14 win over No. 24 Army. The Fighting Irish will have to prove why Notre Dame is the best place for Meadows on upcoming Saturday against the Florida State Seminoles.
