Woah! Looks like the Michigan Wolverines HC Sherrone Moore is in no mood to hit the ‘SETTLE’ button. After all, the head coach can’t take any risk this time. Obviously, the Wolverines have lost the trust of some of their fans. Courtesy? Not making it to the playoffs even after coming off as the defending champions. Now what’s the best way to win the fans’ trust back? Adding some good recruits to turn the table. Looks like Moore is on his way to do so. Right now there are two targets that the Michigan HC has his eyes on. Something good awaits him in this recruitment race as their SEC opponent has already taken a backseat.

By far, the Wolverines have lost 24 players to the transfer portal as of January 2025. So, Moore had to take immediate action to fix the gaps. Well, the Wolverines HC tried his level best to balance things out. After losing almost two dozen players, 10 players have transferred in. Yes, the growth has been slow. That’s when Moore might have thought of catalyzing it. On the Michigan Sports Talk podcast, the host revealed what’s the program’s need of the hour. He stated, “Two portal targets currently those are the Notre Dame offensive lineman Pat Coogan and also Rocco Spindler.” For Moore, Pat Coogan turns out to be an irresistible target.

As the host stated, “Pat Coogan who is a center played center for Notre Dame but also can play guard he has experience at both positions.” However, when is life so easy for Moore? Here too he is going to face tough competition. Initially, Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss Rebels had posed a threat to land Coogan. But here is some good news for Moore and Co. “According to On3’s Pete Nakos, he[Coogan] was set to visit Ole Miss on Wednesday but according to E J Holland of The Wolverine, he is no longer visiting Ole Miss this week.” So, now it’s the ‘Google Me’ man, Curt Cignetti, and the Indiana Hoosiers and Moore’s program who are the only competitors.

In case they land Coogan, it will be an absolute WIN-WIN situation in Ann Arbor. After all, they already have their starter, Greg Crippen. Apart from Coogan, the Wolverines will be hosting Notre Dame offensive line transfer Rocco Spindler. Luckily, the competition is a bit less. As the podcast host stated, Matt Rhule’s Nebraska Cornhuskers also wants to land the 6’5” and 325 pounds OL transfer. Why wouldn’t they? After all, he earned a 71.8 pass-blocking grade and a 70.3 run-blocking grade while playing 747 snaps. Turns out to be, Spindler is still in two minds when it comes to the Huskers. “Nebraska who did enter him in the student directory on the first day of his visit on Tuesday which was the deadline but he hasn’t given an official commitment to Nebraska,” confirmed the host. Apart from the recruiting drive, Moore now have an old mess to clear.

Sherrone Moore carries the burden of a past scandal

Well, we are all aware about the sign stealing drama that the Wolverines got involved in, right? In August of 2024, a report was published that highlighted some of the allegations. Among them, surprisingly Moore’s name could be found. Back then, the now Michigan HC happened to be an assistant coach in Ann Arbor. It says that he allegedly deleted a text message thread with former Michigan football staffer Connor Stalions

As per the ESPN reports, “The draft, which could be subject to change, states Moore could face a show-cause penalty and possibly a suspension for allegedly deleting a thread of 52 text messages with former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions in October 2023.” Sadly, the date of Moore deleting the messages and Stalions’ play-calling signals, matched. So, what did the HC have to say about this?

“And it wasn’t to hide anything, it was just that — I was just extremely angry of, you know, the type of person that would do that to this program and these kids,” he answered. Well, we are yet to unravel the truth. But as of now, Sherrone Moore should land these recruits by hook or crook and at least try to whitewash his and the program’s image by getting back on track.
