Michigan's recruitment win over USC—Is this the start of a new era for the Wolverines?

Sherrone Moore’s Michigan secured a massive victory in Primetime on Saturday night with a 27-24 score against the USC Trojans. Not only did they take down their new Big Ten rival, but they attracted the prospects who watched the game. The Wolverines made a smart move by hosting a recruiting event during their fourth-week game against USC, which was a hit as the big house atmosphere was “stripe out,” according to fans. Wolverines, standing on the sidelines, grabbed the attention of recruiters who came to Ann Arbor and witnessed their marvelous win.

On3 recruiters, in their recent episode, talked about Michigan‘s week four victory, followed by recruiting developments, which seems crazy. “Big time win for the blue! Defense was flying around and the big house was electric. It was a great atmosphere I feel like I could play in,” said Bradenton IMG Academy 2025 four-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, who was there watching the game and felt electrified given Michigan’s top-notch performance.

Furthermore, the show host, Josh Newberg, described how the game impacted Michigan’s recruiting process. “Let’s talk about some of the biggest developments of the weekend games, meaning big visits were happening. And we’ll start with priority Michigan target Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng. He visited Michigan over the weekend, and boy, did he see a thriller. Newberg called the Michigan game a thriller, and there is no other way to put it.

He then explained what it looked like to be there witnessing the game, “Remember, Michigan scored a touchdown 37 seconds to go to take the lead over USC, and they won 27-24. it was a battle-tested win, and the teams never folded when they were down. It was his first game at Michigan, and it sounded like they made a big impression. Newberg highlighted Sherrone Moore’s newest recruit, Nathaniel Owusu Boateng’s breathtaking experience watching the game. It must have been a love-at-first-sight moment for him.

Over 10 Michigan commits and around 100 top prospects visited Ann Arbor to watch the game, who might flip to Michigan following this key victory. “He’s (Nathaniel Owusu Boateng) one of the top 100 uncommitted prospects; most of them are committed to a program, Michigan, got to feel good about where they stand. That’s quite huge for Michigan, turning out so many playmakers overnight. But to be honest, although Michigan struggled earlier in the season, we had this thought somewhere back in our minds that they would bounce back at full speed, and now they have done this. So they deserve all the attention they receive.

The top prospects who visited the Michigan vs. USC game and who had faith in the program even before they won the USC game are four-star wide receiver Jasper Parker, four-star running back Donovan Johnson, four-star wide receiver Jacob Washington, four-star tight end Andrew Olesh, four-star offensive lineman Avery Gach, and two four-star defensive backs, Kainoa Winston and Brody Jennings. Jennings, who visited the program back in July, committed to them after his first visit.

With that, certain other key players might end up committing to the Wolverines, including four-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng. On top of them, Michigan is likely to lure a four-star defensive back, Alex Graham, who committed to the Colorado Buffaloes in April 2024 but is likely to flip to Michigan. Michigan showcased that it only takes a game to win its charm back and maintain its legacy. Hope they’ll go with the same energy for their upcoming matchup against Minnesota on September 28th.
