What is a rivalry game without some feud? The same happened in the Michigan-Ohio faceoff this weekend. After Michigan won the game, their players ran to plant the Michigan flag on the Ohio State logo in the field, which led to a serious brawl between the two sides. Now there are repercussions faced by both teams. Yes, you heard that right. Today ESPN writer Pete Thamel took to X to share the penalty news, saying, “The Big Ten is fining both Ohio State and Michigan $100,000, ESPN sources confirm. The fines come in the wake of the post-game melee on Saturday in Columbus. The Big Ten is expected to make an announcement soon. Yahoo Sports first reported.”

This is meant to happen as the intensity reached the level where local police have to use pepper spray on the players to break them up. As they were just not stopping taking their authority over the flag, the players also got into a physical fight, throwing punches at each other. Man, it was a weird night! The situation got so out of hand that even a cop got hurt. Can you imagine how heated things must have been for the Big 10 team to take such drastic action against both teams?

Even Ohio State players didn’t let any chance to give Michigan the taste of their medicine. After this flag war moment, Buckeyes players made a bold confrontation with their rivals as defensive end Jack Sawyer took the top of Michigan’s flag and ripped it off the pole. Eventually, the team lost their game against them, which was one of their worst nightmares coming to reality as Sherrone Moore and the team successfully maintained their fourth winning streak.

Is losing against Michigan a turning point for Ohio State?

Well, no one would have thought that the Ohio State Buckeyes would lose against an unranked Michigan team that is close to achieving its ultimate goal. But as we say, it always depends on timing and fate. Looking at Michigan and Sherrone Moore’s runs, both are skyrocketing for the team. First, they won against Northwestern and became bowl-eligible, and now they have won their rivalry game against the Buckeyes. That’s something that will always stay in everyone’s mind.

However, for Ryan Day and the team, it might not be pleasant news. They were 10-1, ranked #2, and had just taken down undefeated Indiana. But then the Michigan loss happened, knocking them down to #7. Now, with a win over Indiana again and a tough fight against Oregon, plus their weak schedule, Ohio State (10-2) might have a shot at sneaking into the playoffs with ease. However, their recent loss puts them in a difficult position, especially since it came at a time when they needed to perform their best. Let’s just say, that beating Michigan is almost as good as winning a Big Ten title for Ryan Day. After all, it’s a rivalry that runs deep.
