The defending champion’s Michigan Wolverines have registered their third back-to-back victory. Sherrone Moore’s team escaped with a narrow 27-24 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Wolverines stepped on the field with clear intentions to win. However, Moore and his staff were questioned despite victories in the second and third weeks.
Running back Kalel Mullings played a significant role in Michigan’s victory; he carried the ball 24 times for 111 yards and successfully scored two touchdowns. Additionally, their kicker, Dominic Zvada, made the most crucial field goal in the third quarter; however, they almost lost their lead. But all the drama happened in the fourth quarter; they were at 24-3 when they entered the last quarter.
And guess what? Minnesota bounced back and scored three back-to-back touchdowns and narrowed the score to 27-24 only with 1:37 minutes remaining. During the fourth quarter, the Gophers recovered the one-side kick, but because the Wolverines made a crucial offside call, they were penalized. Kalel Mullings secured his second attempt and helped his team run out the clock and register their last-minute win.

After Moore’s squad won against Minnesota, they were all over the media, and fans criticized them for their offside call. Joel Klatt, a college football color commentator, joined the conversation and stated, “Now Michigan is just like every week; I feel like there’s more questions than answers. It becomes painfully obvious to anybody that is a Michigan fan that if Michigan is outside of their perfect blueprint, they’re at risk of being beaten, so they have no margin for error; they were very lucky to escape. I thought Saturday with a win the call on the onside gig, that that was the wrong call, that was not offside.”
Klatt strongly believes the offside call was incorrect, and it was a bad move made by Michigan in the final quarter. While many might think it is a bold move made by Michigan, the commentator is totally against it, emphasizing the same; he added, “Minnesota should not have been flagged for the offside. Now, I do think that there was probably an illegal touch in there. The offside was a bad call. So Michigan is fortunate in a lot of ways. It didn’t go to a replay. You know? They didn’t have to sit there and sweat a replay that was questionable.”

However, Michigan’s head coach was happy with the win at the time; he mentioned his disappointment in the way they secured the win: “We’re happy we got the win. But not happy, not satisfied with how we got the win.”
The Michigan Wolverines secured their second Big Ten victory
Michigan has played five games so far, and last week’s game against Minnesota was very entertaining. Mullings put up a strong show in week 5; he scored a 27-yard touchdown and a short touchdown in the second quarter. The Wolverines blocked a pint in the second quarter, which eventually helped Tyle Morris score a touchdown and push their lead to 21-0. Michigan completely dominated the first two quarters.

Minnesota somehow managed to score a last-second field goal just before halftime. Michigan, who was already leading, started the second half where they left off in the first. Kicker Zvada stepped in and made a 54-yard field goal at the most crucial point. Michigan had a quarterback problem since their second game, which was then carried forward, and their tight end, Colston Loveland, had to miss one game. But fortunately, he was back in the gridiron last week.
The head coach, who was happy that they secured the win, was not happy with their performance, as they won by a narrow victory. In the postgame interview with Fox’s Jenny Taft, he said, “Not very happy with the performance.” Orji displayed his presence of mind. He was crowed with backfield he still managed to recover the bouncing ball. That was the highlight of the thrilling showdown. Soon then Mullings ran for six yards, and the Gophers could not stop them or the clock. Coming Saturday, Michigan will face Washington, which is going to be a rematch of their national title game.
