“Whether I go first round or second round, at the end of the day, that draft pick doesn’t mean nothing. It’s all about establishing yourself once you get the opportunity.” That’s how former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward approached chasing his dreams—leveling up instead of just wondering how it would happen. To reach his goal, he put up his best performance, believing the rest would follow. Ward concluded his college career with an impressive 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns. And now, the NFL giant with the No. 1 pick is reportedly ready to go to any extent to land Ward. While the Miami QB is still experiencing this celebrity treatment, Norfolk State University HC Michael Vick compared him to a $37.75 million quarterback.

The NFL Combine is a major stage to showcase one’s abilities to NFL teams. However, Ward planned not to throw at the Scouting Combine, a decision shared by Shedeur Sanders. Ward remained confident, explaining, “I won’t be throwing. I just think five years of film says everything I can do.” This proved true, as NFL teams weren’t waiting for his Combine performance; they already knew his capabilities. The former Hurricanes QB presents a strong package with a good frame, a strong arm, and a quick sidearm delivery capable of attacking all three levels, making him pro-league material. Now, Vick’s huge praise serves as the icing on the cake.

Having starred for the Hokies, leading them to the 1999 national title game and the Sugar Bowl during his two seasons in Blacksburg, Vick gives a big thumbs-up—high praise for Ward. On April 3rd, the now-coach shared his thoughts on the quarterback’s NFL prospects on the Get Got Pod podcast. Discussing two prominent QB names in this draft class, Vick noted, “Like Shedeur kind of remind me of CJ. CJ Stroud. He’s a pocket passer, he gonna move when he have to. He’s gonna light you up from the pocket. The accuracy is there. Cam accuracy is there. Cam is going to be able to move. He look like more so like Jayden Daniels.”

Jayden Daniels showed significant growth in his fifth college year in 2023, throwing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while rushing for 1,134 yards and another 10 TDs. It’s a jump from his 2022 stats of 2,913 yards and 17 touchdowns. This led to him being the 2nd overall pick in the 2024 draft, with the Commanders signing him to a 4-year, $37.75 million contract. Consequently, if any quarterback entering the NFL is poised for a standout rookie season akin to Daniels’, it’s likely Ward, a possibility stemming from Daniels’ remarkable composure under pressure, especially given LSU’s historically weak defense—a trait Vick sees in Ward as well.

Cam Ward steered the Hurricanes to a solid 10-win season and definitely has the spark to make some magic happen in the pros. Vick stated, “Cam’s just gonna do something and spin out and look like a Jayden Daniels.” And Vick isn’t alone in observing this similarity; ESPN analyst Louis Riddick echoed this sentiment. “What is the first thing that people said about Jayden Daniels when he went to Washington? They were surprised, not surprised, that everyone was impressed about the fact he was there at 5 AM every day and he’s the last guy to leave. That’s not just for show, it’s part of his process. It’s the same thing with Cam Ward. He will have that same king of effect.” While Riddick didn’t compare their playing styles, he highlighted comparable leadership qualities in both quarterbacks. The Titans are already seeing something special and going all out.

Tennessee Titans are all locked in for Cam Ward

Well, we all know how the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, envisioned himself as the top pick. But someone chose to rain on his parade. Right now, Ward has pulled the strings his way, hinting that a deepening commitment from Tennessee is on its way. Now, come on, it’s time to put the blinders down as we have got the strongest hint in front of our eyes. Tennessee was slated to host a private workout with presumptive top-10 prospect Shedeur on April 9. Fortunately or unfortunately, it did not go as planned.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Cam Ward the next big thing for the Titans, or just another overhyped prospect?

Have an interesting take?

Deion Sanders’ son and Brian Callahan’s program mutually agreed to cancel their previously scheduled private workout. Not that was an unlikely move from a quarterback-hungry team like the Titans. At a time when they snubbed Shedeur, they did conduct a private session with Miami quarterback Ward. Things are now all crystal clear, right? Hold on!

Callahan and Co. even refused to be a part of Travis Hunter’s private workout. Turns out, for them, it’s either Cam Ward or no one. After all, the former Miami QB is a hot target for Tennessee given his arm strength, his mobility, and his durability. The NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah can already see the future. “I just think they’re locked in. Once they kind of zeroed in on Cam Ward… they went to [Sanders’] pro day out of respect for the career that he’s had and also to see Travis [Hunter]. We’re locked in on our decision. So, let’s not waste any of your time as you try and prepare.” That’s how the Music City has already rolled out the red carpet for their favorite Cam Ward.
