Home/College Football

Another day, another NIL drama. The entire NIL scene and the transfer portal shenanigans make you wonder if implementing this method is even good for the players or not. Take that entire Bryce Underwood scene. Yes, he is the top QB of the 2025 roster, but $10.5 million? Really? Are we recruiting a freshman or Michael Jordan? Michigan has deep pockets, so that went along with it. But then, when you come down to the WR Micah Hudson scenario, it makes you question if Mike Elko and the Aggies are even in the right mind or not. See, as of now, this NIL deal between Micah Hudson and the Aggies is “allegedly” real.

This could very well be fake, but what if it isn’t? What if this guy got off $700k richer with his below-average stats? “There’s no f–king way. I will never let that kid get past the $700k demand. As soon as that came across my office, I’d have been like get the f–k out of here,” Coach JB pointed out on his show. To get you up to speed, the leaked details of the NIL deal between Hudson and Texas A&M list that Hudson is liable to receive a $700k minimum wire. This is upfront and for a 1-year deal (just to sign to the team immediately). And it does not end here. Hudson wasn’t a “separate” NIL deal for 3 different cars for FAMILY MEMBERS.

Follow that up with a PERSONAL DIVER with a Cadillac SUV. And this will be there for him to use from spring practice till the end of the season. Next, family travel and hotel arrangements have to be completely paid for. Finally, the most outrageous one is injury time off, which will be basically decided by Hudson and his family and not the team.

All of this for going 8 receptions with 123 yards and zero touchdowns in FIVE TOTAL GAMES. Does this make any sense? Yeah, we get it. The legitimacy of the leak has not yet been proven, but even if there is a small chance this is true, then Red Raiders pretty much saved themselves.

Yeah, maybe we could’ve seen this guy perform even more if Texas Tech had played him more, but still? Nick Saban was not wrong when he called out the entire Bryce Underwood thing. Yeah, you can call him old-fashioned, but players suddenly making such outrageous demands is just wrong. And to think that this ain’t even the only NIL/transfer portal drama that happened this week.

Roll it back to Bama

Same old, same old. Bad season run and players hit the portal. Where have we seen this happen back in 2023? Alabama. Remember when Saban issued his retirement, and Bama lost 18 different guys? Yeah, with this year’s run, 14 players have decided to pack their bags. However, the most interesting of them all has to be CB Jaylen Mbakwe.

Are NIL deals ruining college football, or is this just the new era of the sport?

Have an interesting take?

Now, it was allegedly reported that Jaylen was given a 7 figure NIL deal. Hence, the portal move. But then something wild happened. Last day, Nick Kelly reported that Jaylen had taken down his Instagram post, which had shared the news of his transfer.

Bama fans quickly suspected that WR Ryan Williams had something to do with it. See, Williams and Jaylen both host the Newwave Podcast. Frankly, it is very successful, and there is no way Williams would let his friend leave like that.

“I think we ain’t done yet,” was what Williams wrote on his Instagram story the moment Jaylen deleted his IG post. Looks like Kalen DeBoer can thank Williams for this save. Bama has a lot a ton, and losing another defensive powerhouse would’ve hit hard.

Regardless, from what we have learned in the last few days, this entire NIL and free agent scene? It is going to do a lot more damage to college football in the long run. And when the NFL comes knocking, a lot of these guys are going to have to go through some major problems.
