Cam Ward has been lighting it up for the Miami Hurricanes, and now he’s all set to take his talent to the big leagues. With his cannon arm, he’s been a straight-up monster this season, topping the nation with 36 TDs and completing 4123 passing yards. As a projected top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the 22-year-old QB has set the bar quite high. Winding up his adventure at the Hurricanes, he recently said, “If they get a chance to get me, they’re going to get everything I have. You’re getting a winner.” However, with every ending chapter, another opens. Who’s gonna step up and fill his shoes? Well, it looks like they have already found someone.
On the latest episode of Inside TheU, a Miami Hurricanes insider cherished one of their signee Malachi Toney‘s latest achievements on the field as he aims to join the school for its 2026 class. Miami fans gear up for a revolutionary post-Cam Ward era when Toney takes over the driving seat, as he seems as promising as Ward was when he joined the Hurricanes. The class 4A state championship turned out to be a testament to Malachi Toney’s excellence under pressure. From the moment he stepped in as quarterback to take the place of an injured player, he demonstrated an ability to steal the show.ADVERTISEMENT

“This wasn’t just a wide receiver with his athleticism running around. He made plays with his arms. He completed all 12 of his passes in the first half for nearly 150 yards, completed his first 15 passes in the game, and didn’t have an incompletion until the fourth quarter. Finished with 15 completions on 18 attempts for 188 yards and a touchdown pass.”
Toney’s precision and composure were on full show from the start. Despite stepping in for American Heritage QB1 Dia Bell earlier in the playoffs, he showed remarkable control, driving the offense with confidence. His to-the-point throws included a 26-yard touchdown to Jamar Denson in the second quarter, helping American Heritage take an early lead.
“He was in complete control in the second half, threading passes and making plays. You know, you want guys like this on your team and your program. You want guys that just know how to play football.” During the second half, when the momentum swung back and forth, he showed the highest of his skills. As his teammate Jones fought back to tie the game at 31-31 in the fourth quarter, Toney’s calm demeanor kept the Patriots steady.
“For a guy who transitioned mid-playoffs, his courage and composure were exceptional. Miami got a good one as a wide receiver prospect—a natural playmaker with agility and speed.”

Most importantly, stepping into a position that wasn’t his natural fit was a tough nut to crack but he not only helped his team secure a 40-31 victory but turned out to be a player ready for the bigger challenges he might receive at the Miami Hurricanes. Moreover, let’s learn what Toney has to say after the game.
Malachi Toney, Miami Hurricanes’ next Cam Ward!
Stepping in as Dia Bell’s replacement, Maclachi Toney was the real mastermind behind the Pitbull Stadium victory. While narrating his experience in leading his team towards a championship victory, he said, “I told my defensive coordinator, if you get three stops, this game will be a blowout. I think they got a little bit more, a little bit less. as long as we came out victorious.”

Yeah, it was the moment when everyone from the stadium screamed, “The main character’s energy!” It was when that 1-yard QB sneak gave the Patriots a 17-10 lead early before halftime. However, this game was not smooth sailing, and Toney’s mate, James, also played a part in helping them see the victory.
On top of that, their head coach Mike Smith was amazed by the way these young guys played, as he said, “They just battling; they just come. for them to make that play at the end, just sums up our whole season. just bend but don’t break.” Added to that, this guy has finished his sophomore year with 49 catches for 773 yards and 8 TDs. And for the 2022 season, he fought 35 passes for 621 yards and 8 TDs as a freshman on varsity, helping the Patriots make Florida’s 2M championship game.
