The Miami Hurricanes are on a roll right now. With their win over rivals Florida State, they went 8-0 for the season to lay down the marker. More than 66,000 fans watched Mario Cristobal’s team blow away their opponents at an electric Hard Rock Stadium. Interestingly, the Hurricanes had packed the sidelines with the presence of former players and the whole atmosphere has left their visiting recruits impressed. One four-star prospect announced his commitment to the program and two more coveted stars are likely to follow suit.
Among a number of recruits who showed up for the game last Saturday, five-star LSU commit DJ Pickett was a high-profile absentee. A Florida native, Pickett was reported to be heavily scouted by the Hurricanes with recruiting writer, Izubee Charles reporting that “DJ Pickett has been Miami’s guy for the entirety of this cycle.” However, his Instagram story strongly indicated that he may want to stay with Brian Kelly’s program.
According to Charles, Pickett missed the Miami-Florida game because “it was his senior homecoming” and although the Hurricanes have yet to hear from Pickett, their recruitment has received a massive boost. First up, four-star cornerback Camdin Portis, son of former Miami national champion and two-time NFL Pro Bowler Clinton Portis, committed to the Hurricanes on Sunday evening, becoming the third prospect in Cristobal’s 2026 class.

Camdin chose the Hurricanes over offers from Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, and Auburn. In his sophomore season at Myers Park High School, he recorded 18 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and two interceptions. After committing to Miami, the CB said, “Everyone was tuned in and you can tell this city loves Miami… everywhere I looked, I saw orange.”
Next, we have, four-star defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright, who is one of the coveted recruits for the 2026 class. He was in the house for Miami’s Week 8 win and the 6-foot-3, 260-pounder liked what he saw. Speaking after his visit he said, “I feel really good about Miami. I liked it a lot — seeing how everyone comes together in Miami to support the team and seeing the fan base. We also really liked the city, so it relates well.”
Perry-Wright plays for the Buford Varsity and so far this season he has made 26 tackles averaging 4.3 tackles per game including a sack average of 3.0 With Miami legends, including his uncle Ray Lewis also present at the game, Perry-Wright’s inclination toward the Hurricanes could be stronger after the visit. He also mentioned, “Coach Mario (Cristobal) was excited to see me and told me about how much they talk about me up there. It was great seeing him and family, and I’d rate this visit pretty high.” So, Perry-Wright could be lining up soon for the Hurricanes. as part of the 2026 class. There is more good news for their fans.
The USC Trojans could lose defensive back commit Shamar Arnoux. The Carrollton High School is a four-star prospect who was also at the Hard Rock Stadium. Arnoux committed to USC in June, but Cristobal and his coaching staff are pushing hard for him. After his visit to Miami, Arnoux seemed convinced by the Hurricanes set up. He said, “I enjoyed the Miami trip. I got to spend some time and get to know the coaching staff. From what I noticed, Coach Cristobal is definitely a players’ coach and Coach (Chevis) Jackson is no B.S. teacher of the game. He played at the highest level, the NFL, and tries to teach techniques that will translate to the league.”

Arnoux posted to social media that Miami offered him a scholarship on September 25. Though he remains committed to USC, that could change in the coming weeks as the early signing period begins on December 4. Arnoux also stated that Cristobal made it clear that he is wanted in Miami.
He mentioned via National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman, “They want me there and want me to be a part of their program. Those were Cristobal’s exact words.” While these are exciting developments for Miami and its fans, they might have missed out on five-star cornerback DJ Pickett.

DJ Pickett provides a cryptic update on his recruitment status
“I wish [Oregon and Miami] the best, but I’m at LSU now,” Sports Illustrated reported Pickett’s statement after he joined LSU in July. “If you are a DB and Coach Raymond is at LSU, I feel that’s the right place to be. That tells you everything right there.” Despite the clarity in his words back then, there have been murmurs of a flip to Miami in recent weeks.
Pickett has strong ties with the Hurricanes, having visited them frequently this season. His first visit to the university was on August 31, when he watched his cousin Booker Pickett Jr. play for Miami. Despite these visits, his commitment to the Bayou Bengals remains firm. On October 27, he uploaded an Instagram story, counting down the days until he leaves Florida for Louisana.

Though this was not a direct confirmation, but can be seen as a strong indicator of his desire to remain loyal to LSU unless something drastically changes. Reportedly, Pickett plans to put pen to paper in December during the Early Signing Period before enrolling early and taking his talents to Baton Rouge.
Even if it appears Miami will be unsuccessful in their attempts to lure Pickett, they seemed to have made quite a splash in the recruitment window with one confirmed commitment, with in line to join him.
