No one is unaware that Dylan Raiola’s growth has been a hot topic since Nebraska kicked off spring training. And while his head coach has noted physical changes, the real transformation has been mental—stepping up as a true leader. Well, Dylan Raiola saw action as a freshman last season, gaining valuable experience under center. So now, as a sophomore, he’s not just growing physically—he’s stepping up as a genuine leader for Nebraska. But as Raiola battles through the challenges of his offseason evolution, another storyline emerges. Could Matt Rhule have found a 185-pound answer at QB if Raiola stumbles?
Nebraska took a big step in the 2027 recruiting race by hosting one of its top QB targets. According to Huskers insider, Bryan Munson (March 30), Keegan Croucher of Cheshire Academy walked away from Lincoln with plenty to consider. Right now, after receiving an offer, he got an up-close look at practice and came away impressed with the Huskers’ facilities. To be honest, Nebraska made its mark.
As of now, if Raiola stumbles, Nebraska may already have a future solution in this young standout. But here’s the most intriguing part—Keegan Croucher wasn’t just impressed with the facilities; he was locked in on Raiola. Yes, the freshman QB made a lasting impression, stating, “Dylan Raiola is obviously the guy. I thought he did a really good job today. He’s a leader, and he’s out there coaching them up. Today’s practice was very up-tempo. Seeing the practice made my day and the visit worth it. It was pretty awesome.”

However, Croucher’s praise didn’t stop with Dylan Raiola—he was also impressed with Nebraska’s staff and environment. Yes, the Huskers left a strong impression, from the coaches to the facilities. And Croucher put it best, saying, “Getting a new offer is great. The hospitality and everything they did was incredible. I feel like their facilities are some of the best in the country. Everything was incredible. Coach Thomas, Coach Rhule, and Coach Holgerson are all awesome coaches. I can’t wait to build our relationship on what has already started.”
Although Saturday marked Croucher’s first visit to Nebraska, it’s only the beginning. Because a return trip is already in the works, though the exact timing remains uncertain. And the chances are, he’ll be back in the fall, eager to soak in the electric game-day atmosphere in Lincoln. Following that, the freshman QB stated, “I am definitely coming back to Nebraska. If it isn’t this summer, I will definitely get back to Nebraska for a game in the fall. I’ve heard great things about Lincoln, Nebraska, and their fan base. I want to experience that.”
But nothing is guaranteed for the Huskers in landing the freshman QB. While quarterbacks are typically the first to commit in a recruiting class, Keegan Croucher is in no hurry. Because he won’t make a decision until he’s fully confident. “I’m not going to rush,” said Croucher. Adding, “I want to choose the right school.”
Given that Croucher has a packed visit schedule this spring and summer. Well, he recently made his 3rd trip to Michigan before heading to Nebraska. Up next are Notre Dame, Minnesota, and Indiana, with potential stops at Rebels, Oregon, Texas, and Florida. Now, as a return to Texas is already in the works for summer. Though Croucher remains unranked for now, plenty of programs are already chasing him. And it stands, Michigan holds a 53.2% chance of landing him, while Nebraska sits at 11.8%. But don’t worry—it’s just the beginning.
While a potential replacement for Raiola may be emerging, the Nebraska QB’s offseason transformation remains a work in progress.

The change in Dylan Raiola
Matt Rhule made it clear in his first spring press conference that Dylan Raiola needed to reshape his body from his freshman season. And the young QB took that challenge head-on. Since then, he’s been locked in on his development. As of now, speaking to the media on Thursday, Raiola detailed his offseason grind. Yes, he stayed disciplined, working closely with Huskers’ strength and nutrition team. To be honest, every rep, every meal, and every workout—all focused on getting better.
However, Raiola didn’t sugarcoat it—this offseason has been brutal. But heading into spring practice, he feels like he’s in the best shape of his life. Getting there, though, was no easy task. “If I’m being honest, it sucks. I’m just being honest,” admitted the standout QB.
Moreover, Raiola said, “It’s a constant grind every day. Sometimes you don’t see change right away. Your body doesn’t transform in a day, a week, or even three. It’s all about consistency—sticking with it and pushing forward.”
