Is Matt Rhule's decision to bench Raiola a genius move or a risky gamble?

It’s a win for Nebraska Cornhuskers. The team entered the season under new head coach Matt Rhule, making his debut a big success as the Huskers won against the Miners with a high margin of score 40-7 this Saturday. However, Matt is taking much needed steps to make sure his team maintains his momentum following its upcoming match against the Colorado Buffs. Well Rhule’s decision made it a bittersweet moment for two exceptional quarterbacks of Nebraska Dylan Raiola and Heinrich Haarberg. but how? Leaving them at a position of uncertainty. But how? Let’s get into it.

Matt Rhule took an important decision following their upcoming match against the Colorado Buffaloes on the 8th of September. To save the Nebraska Cornhuskers position in the match, Head Coach Matt made a surprising move by benching quarterback Dylan Raiola and giving Heinrich Haarberg a chance over him. Today, Jacob Bigelow, writer for the Huskers, took to ‘X’ to confirm the switch saying “Heinrich Haarberg in at quarterback for Nebraska.”, perhaps Rhule has a plan in mind. Well, it can be a smart move as Dylan is a newcomer to the team, and the decision was much needed to keep teams’ winning stakes alive.

However, looking at Dylan today’s performance against UTEP Miners, the decision might look unfair. Dylan Raiola made an impressive debut as a quarterback for the Huskers. He displayed magnificent gameplay by completing 19 of 27 passes for 238 yards and finishing with only two touchdowns. Well, his debut was amazing, dominating the Miners with 40-7. Even fans can’t understand Matt Rhule’s sudden change of mind, but all we know is Henrich Haarberg is more experienced than Dylan.

Meet Heinrich Haarberg

“Heinrich’s too athletic to be standing on the sideline holding a clipboard,” Satterfield was not wrong when he said this about him. He was a key performer last year for the Huskers. Even HC Matt Rhule couldn’t overlook his capabilities, preparing him to back up a starter at the Dylan Raiola position.

His remarkable performance last season made him stand out as he went on throwing for 967 yards, with seven touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Heinrich saved Nebraska’s poor performance by taking the position of a starting quarterback after Jeff Sims’ exit because of injuries. However, Matt Rhule has always believed that he has capabilities to play for multiple positions. There are possibilities that Heinrich Haarberg will be playing in various positions following their match against the Buffs. Also looking at Colorado’s win against North Dakota, the defense looks very strong with players like Shedeur Sander and Travis Hunter. Well, it will be interesting to see if this change can really add value towards Cornhuskers match against Colorado.
