Woah! Will college football fans be blessed with another brother duo donning the same jersey? Looks like things might actually fall into place. We are talking about the Nebraska Cornhuskers QB Dylan Raiola and his brother Dayton Raiola. Matt Rhule had kept the family factor in mind during the recruitment addition. In September 2024, the class of 2026 quarterback Dayton had already committed to his big bro’s team. However, while the young chap might be considering Nebraska as his next spot, making an announcement, his brother lands in a sticky spot. That’s because of Dylan’s weight concerns.   

Well, we have all seen what happened to Rhule’s Dylan story. There was a time, before walking into the 2024 season, when Nebraska had too many expectations from their QB. Why wouldn’t they? After all, Dylan had turned heads, pulling off a Patrick Mahomes look. The broccoli hair, and the pair of Oakley glasses, might have left some tremors across other programs.

They thought that it was only the trailer while the main action would be Dylan showing some Mahomesque skills on the gridiron too. Sadly, it didn’t pan out that way and has an anticlimactic theme. He was sacked multiple times. Maybe that’s when Nebraska might be counting on the other brother to flip the story. The program is nearing the first step with the official visit.

On February 27, Huskers insider Bryan Munson tweeted, “Nebraska Recruiting Intel: QB commitment Dayton Raiola picked a great weekend to take his OV to Lincoln. Raiola will be able to help host some of the Huskers’ top offensive targets in the 2026 class.” Well, Dayton’s brother might be in the limelight in the college football landscape. It was on September 22, the three-star recruit committed to Rhule’s squad. But the Buford High School star set social media on fire.

He led his high school to a record of 5-1 in October. However, Dylan’s brother’s highlight moment came with a 34-7 win over Collins High School. Dayton threw a 60+ yard pass to Louisville wide receiver commit Jordan Allen for a touchdown. This, in turn, extended Buford’s lead to 20-7. While Dayton might be on his way to take his commitment to Rhule’s army a step forward, his brother Dylan had gotten some side-eye. But the HC is sure about his comeback.     

Matt Rhule sounds optimistic about Dylan Raiola’s transition

Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 230 pounds, Dylan has now become the talk of the town. After all, the quarterbacks are always expected to don a chiseled physique. Yes, there has been discussion about how Rule’s second-year starter is “getting his weight to the proper weight.” As analyst Danon Benning stated about Dayton’s brother hitting his fitness goal. “If one of your physically most gifted players, the natural leader, if he got like an elite level fitness, just imagine what that would do for the guys around him.” After this, the HC had to break his silence.

On the Triple Option podcast, Rhule had a discussion with Coach Urban Meyer and Rob Stone. “His weight, making sure that he’s a guy that can extend plays, making sure that he’s a guy who’s nimble and making sure that he’s a guy who can run,” the HC sounded confident. He reiterated his desire to see a fitter version at 225 pounds. After all, they have seen the 19-year-old put in effort, doing cardio before lifting and throwing. Rhule revealed, “He understands that he’s a big man and wants to keep his movement skills.” Now this will be an inspiration for his brother Dayton too.

Toning himself up, Dylan Raiola will be better with his mobility and become better at getting outside the pocket. With the goal of becoming a fitter version of himself, and Dayton’s commitment to the Huskers, continues the long legacy of the Raiolas at the school. Their father, Dominic Raiola, was an All-American center and won the inaugural Rimington Trophy in 2000 for the Cornhuskers. Their uncle, Donovan Raiola is in his fourth season as Nebraska’s offensive line coach. That’s how Rhule’s program will now run on the Raiola power.
