Matt Rhule is out here moving like a chess grandmaster, making big-boy recruiting moves while the rest of the country is still trying to catch up. Nebraska’s recruiting trail? It’s been hotter than a mid-July BBQ, and this past weekend? Straight-up fireworks. First, 5-star QB Trea Taylor pulled up to Lincoln, setting the stage for 2027. Then, just when it seemed like things couldn’t get crazier, a wildcard entered the chat—a 6’6” freak athlete who might just change the entire game for the Huskers.

Ahmad Hudson. Remember the name. If you don’t know him yet, you will real soon. On the March 29 episode of Wilson Dittman Sports, Dittman dropped an absolute bombshell: a surprise 2-Sport 5-star visitor had made his way to campus. Not just any five-star—THE number-one tight end in the class of 2027. “Big-time name—the number one tight end in the class of 2027, Ahmad Hudson,” Dittman spilled. “Absolute freak athlete. Listed at 6’6″, 230 lbs. We talk all the time about having a vertical threat at that tight end spot—a guy who can stretch the field, a guy with incredible length, incredible speed, and NFL upside. That’s what you get here with Ahmad Hudson.”

Brian Kelly and LSU had been leading the charge in his recruitment, but Hudson made it clear—Nebraska caught his attention in a big way. Ahmad Hudson, a Louisiana native, had primarily been checking out southern schools, but he wanted to “see a different scenery.” And Nebraska? It didn’t disappoint. “It’s not all rowdy, like people don’t know what they’re doing,” Hudson said about Nebraska’s practice sessions, pointing out the precision and structure of Rhule’s squad. He spent time with the coaching staff, breaking down film with OC Marcus Satterfield. “When I take visits, I don’t really sit there and watch my film, coaches show me the school film, so I like how he brought up my film and actually taught me through it,” Hudson explained.

This wasn’t just a casual drop-in. Hudson’s literally locked in, analyzing the offense, paying close attention to the tight ends, and—most importantly—feeling Nebraska’s energy. “They care about their players,” he noted. “A lot of schools don’t like to talk like that, but Coach Rhule and all of them, it seems like they care about their players a whole lot… I need coaches that care.”

And then, the kicker—Hudson isn’t just a football star. The dude can HOOP. Not only is he the No. 1 tight end, but he’s also a three-star power forward. And guess what? Nebraska’s basketball team is officially in the mix, too. “They’re going to start recruiting me,” Hudson shared after chatting with basketball head coach Fred Hoiberg. Nebraska’s pulling a full-court press—literally. If he wants to play both sports in college, Lincoln might just be the perfect spot.

After a strong first visit, Hudson plans to return in the fall. If Nebraska keeps this momentum rolling, they might just flip one of the most versatile recruits in the 2027 class.

Matt Rhule is plotting a big-time transfer portal move

While Matt Rhule is busy setting up the future with high school recruits, he’s also playing the portal game like a pro. And Nebraska fans? Buckle up, because the Huskers might be on the verge of adding a monster to their defensive front.

On the March 28 episode of Wilson Dittman Sports, another name hit the headlines: David Bailey. “The best player on Stanford’s roster in 2024 just entered the portal. Nebraska is expected to be interested,” Dittman revealed. Bailey ain’t just another mid name in the spring portal—he’s a straight-up game-wrecker. A 6’3”, 240-pound pass-rushing menace, he put up seven sacks and a jaw-dropping 5 forced fumbles last season. Five. That’s not just production—that’s an EDGE who flips the script in crunch time.

See, Nebraska needs that kind of playmaker. Sure, they’ve got some solid pieces up frontRiley Van Poppel, Cameron Lenhardt, Elijah Jeudy. But let’s be real: The Huskers finished 40th in sacks per game last year. Good? Meh. Great? Not even close. What they’re missing is that guy, the one who makes offensive coordinators sweat bullets when it’s third-and-long. That’s where Bailey comes in.

And here’s the real kicker: Bailey isn’t just a one-dimensional pass rusher. “He is a guy who could put three technique, you could put him at jack, he’s going to get to the quarterback at a high level… he’s only 240 pounds,” Dittman explained. If Nebraska can get him up to 255-260, he could be a straight-up nightmare inside. This move makes too much sense. Nebraska’s defense under Tony White has been on an upward trajectory, but landing a dude like Bailey? That’s the missing piece. That’s the difference between ‘solid’ and ‘elite’.

Now, here’s the thing—Nebraska won’t be the only team knocking on Bailey’s door. You better believe other programs are coming with the bag. But the Huskers have an edge: an aggressive coaching staff that’s not afraid to swing big. “Let’s push around some money and see if we can get him here,” Dittman joked. But let’s be real—he ain’t wrong. If Nebraska is serious about leveling up their pass rush, they need to go all-in on Bailey. And given the way Rhule has been working behind the scenes? It’s about time that Lincoln starts cooking.
