Is Travis Hunter's Heisman hype justified, or is Ashton Jeanty the real deal?

A peak season is wrapping up. Elsewhere in the college football world, the coveted Heisman race is heating up. When you continue to cheer for your favorite SEC giant to hit the championship, athletes like Travis Hunter, and Ashton Jeanty call for a split in the attention and for all the exciting reasons. Hunter, the beating heart of the Colorado giant has always been the Heisman front-runner. Thanks to his incredible ability to control passing and rushing games at the same time. Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, by the time, grabbed the spot with more odds in his bag. But after restoring pace with the last two games, it seems the Coach Prime favorite is re-shaping up his Heisman dream. If you have any doubt, look at where his arch-rival stands.

Travis Hunter received a nasty shoulder injury during the game against Kansas State and was forced to leave the field with the game unfinished and didn’t come back for two weeks. The Heisman odds stacks were unsurprisingly coming down. But Hunter remained quite optimistic. He went out of his way to show up for the game against the Arizona Wildcats but couldn’t deliver. Coach Prime, his all-time cheerleader, said Hunter didn’t look like himself as he was not fit for the hustle. The strive to beat the odds continues for the 21-year-old. Finally, the Cincinnati game went in his favor. The phenom pulled off a staggering comeback with nine receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-23 victory. The stat against Texas Tech only served the brownie points. That said, the real stepping stone toward the Heisman hope is Ashton Jeanty’s current standing in the odds.

Jeanty fell to fourth from first in the voting odds, trailing Miami’s Cam Ward, Colorado’s Travis Hunter, and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel. This was serious for Hunters as the Boise State imposed the greatest threat to his prize.

Jeanty, leading the Broncos to an 8-1 status with a total of 1,734 yards and 23 touchdowns, made a strong case for the Heisman discussion. If Boise State can run the table, he still has a good chance to make it but Hunter has his own sweet arguments.

The Two Way Colorado star amassed 69 receptions for 856 yards and nine touchdowns throughout the season. Coach Prime has seemingly cast his vote. ”Travis is the best player in college football. He is doing something we have never seen before,” Deion Sanders built genuine hype for his boy. Who will have the last smile among the two most sought-after Heisman candidates is still a mystery, but when it comes to sportsmanship, Jeanty has an edge.

After the Heisman hope started to fade and Jeanty stole the spotlight, Hunter seemingly lost his cool for some time. When asked about the comparison, the Buff star said, “He has 95 carries for 1,000 yards, If I had 95 catches, how many yards would you think I’d have?”. His sharp jabs didn’t go unheard by Jeanty. But the Boise State star chose to deal with it with more maturity and generosity than his opponent. J

Just after the comments spilled, Jeanty silenced the taunt with 217 yards and a touchdown against Hawaii. While giving a post-game interview with a TikTok influencer, the athlete didn’t let his ego take over.

“Kudos to Travis, he ballin’ for real,” Jeanty said. “Personally, I don’t take no offense to it, he’s just speaking his opinion. Jeanty then added, ”For me what I’ve been doing hasn’t been done in 36-37 years, so that’s something special. If I keep that up and break the record that’s been around for 36 years, I feel like you can’t really compete with that.”
