Carson Beck is at the helm of college football discussion for all the wrong reasons. From being cornered during the Georgia slump last season with a record interception and a late-season elbow injury (which ultimately led him to end the season) to hitting the portal and choosing Miami – set Beck apart from the rest of the crowd pullers in the mix. He has consistently been maintaining the hype no matter if it’s positive or negative. He has his personal life up for the trade as well. After having faced a horrific midnight car robbery a few days back, his breakup narrative with girlfriend Hanna Cavinder took all the spotlight. Amidst all these diverse angles, one question stands out: Will Beck throw this spring at Miami?
Carson Beck’s transition from Georgia to Miami has been anything but an ordinary landscape – and he hasn’t even taken the field yet. But Miami Hurricanes HC Mario Cristobal couldn’t get enough of his new crown jewel in the house. He has spent a whopping $4 million to swoop in the fish and has not regretted a penny of it. He thinks the former UGA product is the perfect fit to fill in the shoes of Cam Ward, the lone Heisman winner in the franchise’s history in the last few years. But the only concern Coach Cristobal seems to have about Beck is his prevailing UCL injury status and the projected recovery. Just a few weeks back, Cristobal said Beck is getting there slowly and steadily and is very likely to throw within a couple of weeks. But to a pinch of dismay of the fans, that timeline is still in progress.
Weighing on Beck’s current status, during an interview with CaneSport Miami Football, the veteran head coach noted, ”Carson is getting plenty of work, just not actually slinging the ball yet.” That’s equally relaxing and stressful to hear. Why relaxing? His spring game involvement can be an unofficial start of a potential legacy in Miami, as it’d help him to establish a chemistry that can work a huge USP in the future. And the stress factor? Well…

Despite Cristobal’s previous words of solace, it’s quite palpable that Beck won’t be able to make throws this spring as he is yet to get fully healed and a recurrence of the trauma can be more detrimental to his QB future. But regardless of the wait, Cristobal is hopeful. Praising his resilience through all the challenges, Cristobal said, “[Beck]’s been pushed. He’s been challenged since the beginning and I think what he does, he challenges himself as a person to be a better leader, he challenges himself to be a better community presence. You know, he does a lot of work with you, name it, every possible community service opportunity, and then with him, he understands the game really well. Now, so we do want to achieve that next level.”
Besides giving flowers for his solid physicality and relentless strive for perfection, Cristobal thinks he’s fun to coach as well because of the crazy demeanor he brings to the table. ”I could talk forever on this guy,” the Canes’ mentor said. But he won’t need to because the internet will, and that too with a pinch of doubt surrounding the drawing drama of his life.
