The Canes ended their 2024 season with a 10-3 record. They failed to make the playoffs and even lost their bowl against ISU. But the season still wasn’t bad by any means. For starters, this was the first time since 2017 that Miami won 10 games, but it was also a feat for Mario Cristobal to take a breather after his arrival. They had Cam Ward, a Heisman-level QB, and receivers like Xavier Restrepo raking up receptions left, right, and center. However, what happens now that both Cam Ward and Xavier Restrepo have departed?

Well, Miami has lost 22 players this offseason, either to the portal or to the NFL draft. However, the main unit that was hit badly was undoubtedly the wide receivers. The two veterans, Jacolby George and Restrepo, opted for the NFL draft and raised significant issues regarding the receiver room. But this wasn’t it. Other wide receivers recently opted to enlist in the transfer portal. But the biggest blow was undoubtedly Ny Carr. Nevertheless, now it all seems to be changing.

According to recent reports by ON3’s Pete Nakos, the Miami wide receiver has finally withdrawn his name from the transfer portal, giving a major boost to Mario Cristobal. Nakos wrote on his X account. “Miami wide receiver Ny Carr has officially withdrawn from the transfer portal, @On3sports has learned. Former top-100 recruit is staying with the Hurricanes.” The player will finally be back with the Canes and will surely look to provide Carson Beck with those perfect receptions.

Carr enrolled at Miami just last year as a four-star prospect and was ranked 21st in his position nationally. The 6-foot, 175-lbs wide receiver came with high expectations but couldn’t quite break into the first team. In total, Carr featured in just one significant game against FAMU, in which the player recovered a single pass for 8 yards. That may well be the reason the native of Moultrie, Georgia, decided to transfer initially. What will happen next?

Well, Cristobal, who certainly would have needed wide receivers to back his $4 million QB Carson Beck, will feel a sense of relief now. Carr joins the likes of Joshisa Trader (91 yards), the LSU transfer CJ Daniels (480 yards), and well-touted freshman Malachi Toney. Other players like Chance Robinson and Ray Ray Joseph will also give competition to Ny Carr for his first-team place. But considering the player withdrawing finally, first-team assurances would already be on the table for the guy.

Mario Cristobal silences Carson Beck’s critics

Carson Beck came after a sensational transfer involving the controversy of the $4 million NIL deal he got and concerns about his 2024 performances. In addition, the injury he suffered against the Longhorns still looks concerning. The injury caused Carson Beck to miss the off-season and spring practices. Additionally, there are concerns that Beck might face further challenges post-injury, similar to Quinn Ewers’ experience last year. If you tell Mario Cristobal all of this, he will have a simple reply.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Ny Carr's return turn the tide for Miami, or is the damage already done?

Have an interesting take?

The Miami head coach has finally broken his silence on Beck’s critics. He gave his reasoning behind transferring the former Dawgs’ QB. “If you watch him in 23, he’s far and above, you know, the best quarterback in the country statistically. And you look at statistics for a guy that probably was pulled out of four or five games early, you know, due to the games being out of hand.” Well, there may be some truth in Cristobal’s claims.

The 2023 season was by far the best for the now-Miami QB. In that, he not only notched up more than 4,000 passing and rushing yards but also did it at a 72.4% efficiency rate for 28 TDs. In contrast, the 2024 season was a bit of a downgrade for Beck, as his efficiency dropped to 64.7%. But Beck’s critics won’t tell you that the Dawgs led in drops last year, their offensive line was tattered in many places, and Mike Bobo’s offense, honestly, was throwing to a defense that already knew what was coming. In a sense, it was sloppy, predictable, and needed fixing in many areas. Should we place the blame on Carson Beck? The QB may have been a culprit in some areas, but it doesn’t seem like the same issue will plague him in Cristobal’s offense.
