Carson Beck’s Miami saga is on a roll. Miami is on its earnest quest to chase back the glory. Beck looks to fix his Georgia curses with a solid redemption. The symbiotic interest saw a $4 million shake-up for the Canes. Cristobal has been a staunch advocate of his newest crown jewel in the QB room. He firmly believes that what Beck has can perfectly fit the Cam Ward-led offense at Miami. The only unresolved issue is that Beck’s recovery from his torn ACL remains incomplete. He was unable to make a significant impact during the spring games. However, that’s not the only issue. Even if Beck puts himself into the grind and starts turning heads shortly, Miami needs the backup force to avoid the past misery.

Making Beck the scapegoat for a clumsy Georgia has been the easiest and most sellable storyline last season. It’s true that the former UGA signal-caller didnt’ produce to his best in his final year at Athens. Beck went from 6 to 12 interception counts within a year. He threw for 3941 yards and 28 total touchdowns in 2023. Fast forward a year, and Beck dropped 464 yards (3,485). Huge inconsistencies and injury blow caused a significant slump in his momentum. But is it Beck that led the Dawgs to their eventual downfall?

Not really. It’s the Georgia offense that made room for a QB dodge-up. “Carson Beck, who is coming off an injury, has played a lot of football. So, I’m not gonna ever be concerned about his readiness to take the field and play at a pretty high level.. I think people will point to last year and say, “Well, look, he was a little up and down last year.” Yeah, but if you look at how he played as opposed to how his supporting cast played, I think Carson Beck was less of a problem than people realize,” Greg McElroy spilled the beans.

Beck has looked extremely sloppy during crucial games against Alabama and Florida. His passing game and running game were visibly weak against the top-tier defenders. But look at his receivers. The profound unreliability at the receiver’s position left Beck vulnerable to further mistakes. “His receivers dropped a million passes at Georgia last year, and his offensive line was really shaky at times, especially against Ole Miss. I don’t think Carson Beck had a really great season because he was trying to press to make up for what was missing offensively. They also didn’t run the ball very well,” the ESPN mogul summed up.

If Georgia had not lost some key veterans in the group, like Arian Smith and Dominic Lovett, the story could have been different. It’s time for Cristobal to start taking notes. They don’t lack depth in the receiver position. But all they have are mostly youngsters, hugely under-tested against the stiff challenges.

McElroy has firm faith in the fresh force in the WR room, like Malachi Tony, Joshua Moore, and CJ Daniels, but he still thinks their breakout potential is a bit uncertain unless they get some clear direction. “This is a talented group. They’re just young, but I think it would be, I think, beneficial to have some veterans—one would be great, and two would be amazing, if you can bring in some veterans there at wide receiver to kind of show these talented young guys how to work, how to approach it, how to be a pro. That would really advance their development.”

However, as far as Beck’s availability is concerned, Cristobal continues to throw hopes like confetti.

Mario Cristobal dropped a relaxing update on Carson Beck

New Miami quarterback Carson Beck didn’t do much during spring practice. Although he started throwing a little, he has yet to finish his rehab, resulting in limited physical exposure. The head coach had said that he should be ready to throw within a couple of weeks. But in reality, Beck’s spring activity was limited to mental reps and film studies. Cristobal remained unfazed. He believes Beck’s presence brought a fresh, motivating aura to the practice. Furthermore, he actively engaged with the team, developed bonds, and guided youngsters to the best of his ability.

But as the Hurricanes turn the page from spring to summer, the former Georgia signal caller is now cleared to resume physical activities beginning Monday. “The good part is, as our PLP — our player-led practices — come up, he’s going to be fully cleared for all of those, so he’ll have the opportunity to have about 16 of those before we even head into fall camp,” Cristobal told reporters Saturday following the conclusion of Spring practice.

The entire Miami camp is awaiting Carson Beck’s full-fledged participation in the practice. Beck has faced a lot of personal conundrums in the last few months, starting with his breakup and the car theft incident. It will be intriguing to see how the QB sets up his mental sanity and kicks off a new stint in his career this fall.
