Just when you thought college football couldn’t throw any more curveballs, boom—Connor Stalions is back, and he’s stirring the pot like nobody else. The man at the center of last year’s Michigan sign-stealing controversy that had everyone in a frenzy is back. This time with more menacing activity. Instead of lurking on the sidelines of the Big Ten field, Stalions is now calling plays for Belleville High School in the Michigan playoffs. Here’s the spoiler for you: He’s coaching none other than 5-star Bryce Underwood, LSU’s prized QB commit and No.1 quarterback of the 2025 class. And the timing is absolutely wild, right? Too good to be just simply a coincidence.
Belleville head coach Dejuan Rogers confirmed how Stalions joined the staff. “I called Coach Will (McMichaels) and asked him if he knew of any reliable help that could assist us during the playoffs, and he recommended Connor,” Rogers explained to CBS Detroit. Now that Stalions is calling the plays for the Belleville Tigers, he’s directly working with Underwood. Bet, every guy in Michigan is expecting him to flip Underwood. If anyone is capable of doing it, then it’s Connor Stalions.

Stalions’ return to coaching comes at a critical moment, with Belleville aiming for playoff glory. And while his presence there might seem innocent, let’s not forget: Stalions is a Michigan man inside out. The fact he’s coaching Underwood, Michigan’s top recruiting target and their only hope, has only fueled rumors of a potential flip from LSU. Also, we can’t let slide that $10 million worth of NIL deal Michigan Wolverines are willing to invest in their future QB. It’s no wonder people are connecting the dots!
Michigan’s quarterback situation has added more fuel to this saga. Since Jim Harbaugh and J.J. McCarthy headed to the NFL, the Wolverines have struggled to find a stable signal-caller. This season, Wolverine’s QB room is a complete disaster. Their starting quarterback, Davis Warren, got more interceptions than touchdowns. On the other hand, HC Sherrone Moore is trying his best to lure and lock in the Belleville quarterback to secure their future.
LSU fans went wild after seeing Connor Stalion with 5-star QB
LSU fans wasted no time reacting to the news on On3’s Instagram. One fan asked, “Is this considered tampering? Can LSU fight this if this young man flips to Michigan?” With last year’s sign-stealing scandal and the ongoing NCAA investigation, it’s no stretch to call Stalion a mastermind at what he does. Naturally, LSU fans are nervous that their 5-star commit pledged to them since January could flip due to Stalion’s influence.

But Stalion did resign from Michigan in November 2023 and started his high school coaching career, so a Michigan fan clapped back, saying, “No, because Stallions doesn’t work/coach for Michigan anymore. He’s just a high school coach offering advice on which school benefits him more.” Right, because that makes it feel so much less shady.
Others were more suspicious, with one user pointing out, “Who said this young man was a slave?” Side-eyeing Stalions’ sudden appearance, another IG user wrote, “I just find it mighty odd for this former Michigan coach from last year now coaching at this five-star recruit’s high school. That’s not a coincidence.” Yeah, understandable; you can almost feel the suspicion crackling through your screen.
Skeptics also criticized the timing: “Why would you bring in a brand-new coach to call plays in the PLAYOFFS?” A fair question indeed. Stalions initially volunteered as a defensive coordinator at Detroit Mumford HS and later became the interim head coach. Now, his sudden appearance at Michigan’s Belleville HS raises eyebrows and adds fuel to the speculation. Is Stalions secretly working for Moore and Co.?

Some fans took a broader view, arguing, “Michigan has taken cheating to a whole new level!!!” Technically, the fan is right. Some fans believe Connor should have been banned from football for stealing signals late in games. And the worries about Underwood’s future didn’t stop there. “Michigan is so desperate to get a good QB that they’ll inevitably ruin his career,” one person wrote, showing his opinion on how things would work out for Belleville quarterback.
Whether Stalions’ sideline magic actually sways Bryce Underwood or just adds more drama to an already spicy story, we’ll have to wait and see. For now, it’s clear that LSU fans are sweating, Michigan fans are scheming, and the rest of us? We’re just here for the chaos.
