The 2025 season marks the fourth season for Lincoln Riley as the USC Trojans HC. And turns out that the number 4 is going to be lucky for the Trojans’ fam. The 2024 was quite of a lackluster season for Riley’s boys. They wrapped it up with a 7-6 overall record. However, this time around the HC made a $1 million gamble back in January. Yes, definitely it was risky. But the Trojans fans must be thanking Riley. After all, the bold move paid off well as insider exposed some impressive recruiting intel.

When it comes to the recruiting race, Riley’s Trojans come off as the dark horse. USC has 15 commitments- that’s definitely the most in the country. With this, they rank No.1 nationally. At the same time, they hold commitments from eight top-150 prospects. Not to forget their three-bluechip commitments that Riley landed in the third week of March. They are the top-100 defensive lineman Jaimeon Winfield, four-star Trent Mosley, and four-star offensive lineman Esun Tafa. Now how could the Trojans’ hot start be ignored? On3 podcast host Josh Newberg addressed how Riley and Co. is treading into unfamiliar territory. After all, last time they were ranked No.18 nationally.

On the March 19th episode of the On3 podcast, Newberg had Scott Schrader, the senior recruiting reporter as his guest. Going by the insider’s take, Riley and Co. had started the preps early taking the help of their defensive backs coach Dough Belk. What worked in their favor was “pivoting away from relying on recruiting out of state to making sure they kept the top instate guys there.” There is another factor too. The Chad Bowden factor, the new GM of the Trojans. As Schrader pointed out, “The addition of Chad Bowden the general manager  has really been a gamechanger…the way kids are talking about USC in Southern California collectively I have not heard in 10 plus years.”

The young chaps are looking forward to bonding with the ex-Notre Dame GM. They now have 15 commitments on board. However, there are some more players who are going to make the jump.  The ones in the line are RB Deshonne Redeaux, OL Sam Utu. Now what vision is the insider getting for the Trojans’ near future? “Chad Bowden the GM said it’s going to be the largest high school recruiting class they’ve taken ever. So I know when Lane Kiffin first came in USC, I think it was about 37 guys they brought in…So it wouldn’t be surprising at all if they took 35 or more.” Well, Bowden has already started to roar big

Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans and their ‘we’re coming’ threat

Riley’s program offered Bowden a multi-year deal worth $1 million annually. That was a huge raise than what the GM was drawing earlier, that is between $270,000-$300,000, according to John Brice of Football Scoop. While many thought that Riley would have to pay the price for taking such a risk, the numbers are here. Before USC, even Michigan Wolverines tried to hire him in 2024. But Bowden turned down the offer and instead took the promotion at Notre Dame to become GM.

Now what’s his plan in Riley’s squad? Bowden brought his No. 2 assistant with him from South Bend, then also hired the directors of player personnel at Illinois and Wisconsin,Zaire Turner and Max Stienecker, to work under him. So in a way, the Trojans did not level up this offseason, they Bow-ed up. Right after holding the spot, Bowden raised an alarm for their competitors.

“I want people to know we’re coming. I want teams to know we’re coming in recruiting.  We’re here, we’re going to be here for a very long time. Our ability to recruit these young people…our aggressive push that we have in building this roster, going into the new era of college athletics, we are going to be blazing a trail opposed to just being a part of it. We’re going to be the leaders of it.” Yes, that’s how Lincoln Riley’s 2026 recruiting cycle has the flavor of bravado and boasting. Something, totally new for them.
