Akron’s finest LeBron James is irrefutably the most successful person native to the state of Ohio. He’s also the biggest proponent for Ohio in the sports realm, at least individually. You’ve got to caveat that because the blood-blood OSU Buckeyes are indeed etched in the upper echelons of American sport. Whether the collective is a bigger entity than the individual is a futile debate. Not only because they’re incomparable, but because they boost each other reciprocally.
LeBron loves himself some football. It’s only natural when you’re so immersed in an ancillary sport. His home state Cleveland Browns aren’t quite worth waxing lyrical over so fortunately he’s got the Buckeyes. After a brief, self-imposed sabbatical from social media, Bron’s back to show his in-state school some love.
In the wake of Ohio State taking a rather insurmountable 31-0 lead on no.1 seed Oregon in the Rose Bowl, LeBron James voiced his feelings on the carnage going down in Pasadena. The team from the west coast is getting mauled in close proximity and Bron wants everyone to know. He took to X to post a ton of emojis implying domination, alongside a resounding battlecry. “KEEP IT GOING!!!!BELT TO ASS”

After his loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Lakers last outing, at home, at least Ohio’s son isn’t bitter with the Columbus-based faction. The Cavs sit atop the Eastern Conference, and Ohio State has one foot in the semifinals of the CFP. Life’s not too bad right now as a sports fan down in the Midwest.
LeBron has been waving Ohio State’s flag off social media too. During the Buckeyes’ similar rout of the Tennessee Volunteers in their previous game, he was watching the game in the Lakers’ locker room while multi-tasking a post-game interview. Even then, he let people know of their domination. His teammate, rookie and former Vol Dalton Knecht, caught slack as LeBron made sure to remind him of the scoreline deficit his alma mater was in. As somebody who never went to college himself, it’s fair that LeBron James associates with Ohio State. Greatness, indeed, recognizes greatness. Speaking of which, just what went wrong for the no.1 team in the country?

LeBron James revels in Oregon’s sorrows, but the writing may have been on the wall
The Rose Bowl transpired to be full of thorns of Dan Lanning and his Oregon Ducks. This was the rematch of these two team’s matchup from October, then played at Autzen. Oregon won marginally, 32-31 owing to a last-second lapse in judgement by Buckeyes’ QB Will Howard. In tandem with Dan Lanning exploiting a loophole in the rulebook which has since been adjusted for.
Did home-field, a couple months and some luck equate to a blowout in the opposite direction? It’s difficult to imagine, but that concoction plus a couple other factors have sent shockwaves across the CFB sphere. You only need to go back to each team’s last outing to discern what caused this. Ohio State, as aforementioned, rolled against Tennessee as they found their offensive balance again. Leaning on the passing game. Oregon’s last game was what feels like an eternity ago, in the B1G Championship.

It;s a reasonable school of thought that the 3-week gap between games may have caused Oregon to become rusty. Hence they didn’t know what hit them, and were down 34-0 before they knew it. Ohio State, on the other side, had all the momentum. Alas, LeBron James and the rest of Buckeyes’ nation will rest easy knowing their team is peaking at just the most opportune time. Ryan Day and his OSU outfit will face Texas in the Cotton Bowl for a spot in the Natty next.
