Did Lane Kiffin just outsmart the competition, or is Ole Miss getting too cocky?

The portal king Lane Kiffin came up with some last-minute strategies for the upcoming season as he landed a talented player to Ole Miss straight out of the transfer portal. Before talking about the linebacker, let’s look at Lane Kiffin’s journey with Ole Miss. Right after joining the Rebels in 2019, head coach Lane Kiffin contributed to the team’s back-to-back 10 regular season wins in 2021 and 2022 and created history.

This news broke out on August 21, 2024. It rarely happens that a college enrolls players while being too close to the championship, but given his past performances, he caught the attention of Lane Kiffin. Coming out of high school, Groce announced his commitment to Mississippi State, and he was the No. 524 overall prospect in his class. Later, he transferred to Arizona and spent some time there. However, soon after that, he changed his mind and transferred again to Starkville during the off-season.

Career stats of Lane Kiffin’s LB

The former three-star prospect started his football career at Pleasant Grove High School in Alabama, coached by Darell Lemieux. He contributed to his team with a 13-3 record during his senior year. Added to that he completed 134 tackles, 34.5 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks. Moving forward in his career, while he was playing for the Bulldogs, Groce played in one game in 2020, and it increased to four in the 2021 season. Later on, he transferred to East Mississippi in 2022 and made waves there.

While at Mississippi State, he played four games. He transferred to East Mississippi for the 2022 season, where he emerged as a key player who received honors like being named All-MACCC and standing third on the team by doing 71 tackles with 6.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and two fumbles recovered. Groce made his season-high 12 stops against NECC.

Right before coming to Ole Miss, he played at UTSA Roadrunner, where he saw action in six games for which he completed eight tackles. The Rebels and Lane Kiffin got lucky to have such an experienced player by their side. Besides that, there are key players like Hayden Williams, Juice Wells, Tre Harris, Jaxson Davis, and Quinshon Jenkins who’ll play alongside Groce in the upcoming season under head coach Lane Kiffin.
