Is Lane Kiffin the mastermind behind Ole Miss's resurgence, or just riding a wave of luck?

There’s no denying Ole Miss is the talk of the town right now. Lane Kiffin’s Rebels pulled off a massive 28-10 upset against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, marking the biggest win of his coaching career. Even though the Rebels have suffered 2 losses this season, they still have a chance to qualify for the CFP at the end of the season. The most exciting part is that the program’s winning record has allowed it to attract top talent for its 2025 dynasty. Well, what’s going on now?

The frequency of flips and decommitments is increasing as the early enrollment season approaches in less than a month. Dante Core, a three-star cornerback commit, left Auburn for Ole Miss on Monday. The declaration of this news came from Hayes Fawcett’s X post, with the Ole Miss’ slogan “Don’t let the rebs get hot 🦈

Well, according to reports, Dante was on campus over the weekend to watch the Rebels defeat the Bulldogs, despite having been committed to their SEC rivals, the Auburn Tigers, since May. After this matchup, he formally changed his mind, and he is now a member of the Ole Miss class of 2025, which is beginning to take shape quite well. As of now, this was the third time Core had visited Ole Miss. Prior to this, he visited Oxford in April on an unofficial visit and again in June on an official one.

The three-star elite prospect was recruited from Choctawhatchee High School (Fort Walton Beach). And as per Ole Miss’s current data, he is the 19th commitment for Lane Kiffin and the 2nd cornerback for the Rebels. Explaining the reason for commitment, Core stated to On3, “The atmosphere was amazing. The fans were going crazy the entire game.” It seems like this coveted 6’0, 170-pound cornerback recruit really felt the true ‘Rebels’ vibe on game day.

Well, it’s one thing to flip a commit, but how did Ole Miss manage to pull off such a huge upset against a powerhouse like Georgia?

With a 28-10 victory over Georgia, Ole Miss increased its chances of making a playoff place. On Saturday’s game, with 7:22 remaining, Georgia’s hopes of a comeback were dashed when Carson Beck was picked off on 4th down. On a fourth-and-ten at the Ole Miss 27-yard line, the Bulldogs went for it, but Beck’s pass was intercepted before Saunders Jr. caught it and fell to the turf with caution as Bulldogs players closed in on him.

Despite spending a large portion of the game with a left ankle injury, Jaxson Dart then stepped up to seal the victory for the Rebels offense. With 3:22 remaining, the Rebels ended the game with a field goal, putting Georgia behind 15 and out of timeouts after Dart broke a 28-yard run on the next possession.
