Is Lane Kiffin's criticism of his team justified, or should he shoulder more of the blame?

Ole Miss came ‘this’ close to beating LSU! It was a nail-biter, but they fell short by just three points, 29-26. Even Rebels’ head coach, Lane Kiffin couldn’t digest the fact that they actually lost. After the game, he just said, “Just really disappointed. Obviously, we should have won that game.” Well, that’s not the only thing Lane Kiffin said about the game. He even pointed out his team’s shortcomings during their face-off against the Tigers.

On October 13th, The Rebel Walk posted on their X account saying, “Coach Kiffin after second loss: “We screwed up a bunch of stuff offensively that left points out on the board, handed them points at the end, don’t make the 4th and 1 down there. Tre dropping the long ball, Tre getting hurt—all those things, and we were still going to win the game.”

Well, Lane Kiffin is not wrong about the Rebels’ weak offense. During the game, they did mess up a lot of big plays. Their star quarterback Jaxson Dart connected to wide receiver Tre Harris for an 81-yard touchdown pass, but only if that could have happened. Tre dropped the football and scored nothing for the team.

This is not the only time they missed a score. The Rebels reached the LSU 15-yard line but couldn’t go further and attempted a 32-yard field goal by kicker Caden Davis, which he missed. Now you can see what head coach Lane Kiffin wanted to emphasize. However, they did try to put up a strong game against the Tigers.

Even though the Tigers came out on top against the Rebels, both teams couldn’t manage to score a single point in the first quarter. Well, there were a lot of shortcomings in Ole Miss’s performance. The players did try to add value to the game. The Rebels’ star quarterback, Jaxson Dart, completed 57 of his passes for 284 yards with a touchdown. Even wide receiver Cayden Lee made nine catches for a 132-yard performance.

Have an interesting take?

The Rebels gave it their all, but the Tigers had the last laugh. A clutch TD pass from Garrett Nussmeier to Kyren Lacy won the game for the Tigers in overtime. After the dramatic game, even Lane Kiffin said it “s–ks” to lose like that. But he fired up the players in the locker room after the game. He said,” I feel for you. This is a hard one, and you’ve got a bye. You don’t get to play again [next week]. It’s easier to get beat by a couple of scores. This is like our game, and we let it slip away. These are hard. This one will be around forever.” Now, it remains to be seen if they can rectify their errors and display improved gameplay in their upcoming games.
