Herbstreit always felt like an outsider, only finding peace on the football field and at recess. He felt an intense spiritual sense, wired with a sense of something bigger, despite never having a stable church home.

Herbstreit confessed, “I was always really, really quiet,” because of which he was used to getting picked in his class a lot. He found his calling on the football field, just like his father; he wanted to play for the Ohio State University. In his sermon at Fresh Life Church, Herbstreit spoke of feeling an emptiness within, which God fills, guiding him through life’s challenges with the Holy Spirit. This realization led him to see beyond material things.
