The Joker fooled the masses with his famous “Agent of Chaos” monologue in The Dark Knight. “I just do things”, he claimed. The character was always a couple of steps ahead of everybody and was meticulous in his plotting. Such that when things go in his favor, it appears instant, when in reality the plan was simmering all along before it eventually boiled over. That’s exactly what one college football analyst believes is the case with Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs.
No. 2 Georgia (6-1) is coming off a bye this week and hasn’t taken to the gridiron since their Week 8 rout over Texas (6-1) in the Longhorns’ own backyard. While absence makes the heart grow fonder, it can also make the mind forgetful. J.D. PicKell of On3 reminded everyone exactly who the Bulldogs are, and how their coach reminds him of The Clown Prince of Crime.
In an excerpt from Youtube posted on X, PicKell said, “Georgia, to me right now, is kind of like the Heath Ledger Joker. There’s that scene in the Dark Knight where Joker is just likex menacingly clapping at the police chief, and you’re not really sure why, but then it becomes very apparent as to why, because Joker about to go crazy on you. That’s Kirby smart right now”. PicKell went on to give his opinion on how the team is trending upwards, stating “[Georgia] are off a bye week. The last time you saw them, they beat the number one team in America at the time, Texas Longhorns by two touchdowns at their place, okay? Georgia, right now, is about to ascend, about to boom. And that’s kind of what they do this time of year”.

The last part of his statement would provide reassurance for Bulldogs’ fans if they needed any. After their slipup against Bama, Smart’s outfit is back on track as they enter the business end of the season. Although Georgia may miss out on the SEC championship game for only the second time in eight years, the 2022 national champs routinely play their best football of the season at this stage and J.D. PicKell is backing them to continue this modern tradition.

As Georgia prepares to take the short trip south to take on the Florida Gators as heavy favorites, Kirby Smart seems to have thwarted any concerns around his program for the foreseeable future. But college football is fickle, and one result changes everything. Smart knows that all too well, as with great power comes great responsibility. Oops, wrong superhero franchise!

Prior to the convincing victory over the Longhorns, Kirby Smart faced scrutiny for Georgia’s underwhelming performances, which paled in comparison to the lofty standards set in previous seasons. Specifically, the regression of the defense, once the bedrock of the Bulldogs’ success, raised concerns. Notably, Georgia allowed a mediocre Mississippi offense, led by a true freshman backup quarterback, to score 31 points. Furthermore, Alabama amassed three touchdowns in the first quarter alone just the week before. However, the defense redeemed itself against Texas, and Smart’s adjustments drew praise.
