What the heck is even happening in the Bulldogs’ camp? The entire Rara Thomas arrest and scandal which happened back in August exposed a fatal flaw in Kirby Smart’s coaching. The entire camp was marked as having a “crime culture” and fans put Kirby Smart on full blast. While Smart was smart enough to remove Thomas from the team, things did not subside back at camp. So it all brings us back to this very moment.
Graham Coffey took to X to share what Smart had to say during the Tuesday press conference. “He starts off saying that he knows we want to know about Colbie Young but he hasn’t had a chance to talk to him yet and that it’s a pending legal matter,” Coffey mentioned in his post. A quick recap for people who have not followed the incident; Georgia WR Colbie Young was arrested on misdemeanor charges (battery) and assault (on an unborn child).

This is a major blow to the entire camp’s reputation. More so to Kirby Smart’s reputation. It feels as if nothing changed at camp, even after the entire Rara Thomas scene and Smart is out here still dodging questions. People have pointed out before as well that Smart has to take proper action regarding these issues.

If we look back, more than 25 people (players and staff included) have been arrested from the Georgia camp over multiple different charges. Is Kirby Smart unaware of these early warning signs or is the Dawgs coach too blind to look at the flaws and fix them?
An investigation by the Journal-Constitution revealed that around 11 players still stayed on the roster during Smart’s tenure even after multiple women came out with abuse allegations regarding them. The CFB world has seen HC’s fall from grace because of off-field incidents piling up. Take Urban Meyer. He lost his entire kingdom despite winning 2 national titles because of all the charges revolving around the players and staff. Now, the question is what can Smart do to fix all of this?

If Smart has any wish of even getting close to the “next Nick Saban” title, he has to figure out a way to sort out his boys. Players Smael Mondon Jr and Trevor Etienne have gone right under the radar and have managed to run amok without any proper actions. Both of these guys were charged with alleged reckless driving and DUI, respectively (Etienne’s charges have been dropped since).
The first thing Smart has to sort out is handing some suspensions over. It doesn’t matter when he does it. People need to learn that there are consequences to their actions. If Kirby Smart continues to avoid the problems just like he did during multiple different press conferences (refusing to comment on the status of players), then it won’t be long before the Dawgs program falls from grace.
