You know how it goes in college football—recruiting’s a warzone, and Kirby Smart is out here making it look like a stroll through Athens on a sunny day. The man’s got a knack for getting what he wants, and it looks like he’s about to snatch something real precious from Brent Venables’ grasp. You feel that? Yeah, that’s the panic setting in for Oklahoma fans, and if the whispers are true, Georgia might be about to hit the Sooners with a sucker punch right when they least expect it, all thanks to No.1 QB of 2026, Jared Curtis.

So here’s the scoop: Oklahoma Sooners’ top 4 -star QB commit outta California – Jaden O’Neal – is looking like he might be ditching Norman for a new spot down in Athens. And if you’ve been paying attention, this really shouldn’t come as a shocker. Georgia Bulldogs got that kind of pull that makes top recruits reconsider their life choices.

According to recruiting specialist Steve Wiltfong, Georgia’s been creeping up that list for O’Neal. “Georgia is really moving up the list for Jaden O’Neal. He’s currently committed to Oklahoma. But that recruitment is on thin ice right now with the Sooners. Jaden O’Neal spent a couple of days in Athens, him and his family, his circle of trust, and I’m told that they had a great visit. An official visit is in the works.” Wiltfong said. Look, Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs need a QB who ain’t scared to let it rip—sling that pigskin deep instead of just dumping it off to a running back or playing it safe with little dink-and-dunk passes. They need a real gunslinger, not just some game manager handing off the rock all day.

That’s exactly why they need Jared Curtis, teams like Oregon to Auburn, everybody wants a piece of Jared Curtis, And if they fails to lock in on Jared Curtis, they need the next best gunslinger from class of 2026. And if Georgia manages to lock down Jared Curtis, O’Neal might just swerve over to Florida State or Arizona instead.

But let’s be real here – Georgia is in a whole different league when it comes to recruiting, they finished top 3 in the last 4 years in recruiting class. They’ve been hosting Jaden O’Neal, his family, his inner circle—basically anybody who matters in this decision—for a few days of campus tours, NIL talks, and that famous Georgia hospitality. And word on the street, Jaden had a blast. An official visit’s already in the works, and you know what that means. Once Georgia smells blood, it’s game over.

This kid’s not just some average Joe off the block, either. We’re talking about a 6-foot-3, 200-pound beast who’s been improving like he’s got some sort of cheat code. He went from a 61% completion rate in his sophomore year at Newport Harbor, where he put up 2,475 yards and 27 touchdowns, to straight-up dominating with over 71% completion for 1,798 yards and 16 TDs in just eight games at Mustang High School in Oklahoma.

And get this – O’Neal’s commitment to Oklahoma has been shaky for months. He committed to the Sooners back in June 2024, but now his recruitment is as unstable as a Jenga tower on a rollercoaster. Georgia’s not just swooping in for fun; they’ve done their homework. Kirby Smart and his staff offered him a scholarship back in January, and since then, it’s been all gas, no brakes. The Bulldogs don’t have a quarterback locked down for the 2026 class yet, and you best believe they’re hungry. Oklahoma’s got to put some real effort into keeping him on board or else this is going to be another painful L for Brent Venables.

Kirby Smart and Georgia Bulldogs on hot pursuit of Jared Curtis

But hold up—Jaden O’Neal ain’t even the biggest fish Georgia’s trying to reel in. Nope. That honor goes to Jared Curtis, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 class. This 6-foot-4, 225-pound Nashville phenom the crown jewel of recruiting battles, and guess what? Georgia’s got a major head start. Curtis, who’s been ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the nation, originally committed to Georgia but hit the reset button on his recruitment last October. Since then, it’s been an all-out bidding war between the Bulldogs and Oregon Ducks Aka Nike Ducks.

Curtis’ agent, Peter Webb, told On3 this week, “For Jared, it’s not about who’s going to pay him the most money. It’s about what’s the right fit for him. Make the decision. Once he’s made the decision, then we go to work.” Basically, he’s saying Curtis is about more than the dollar signs—he’s looking for the perfect fit, and Georgia’s making a pretty compelling case.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma’s over here just trying to keep their four-star golden boy, Jaden O’Neal, from slipping away. But it’s like trying to hold water in your hands when Georgia’s got the recruiting firepower they’ve got. And if Georgia lands Jared Curtis, well, Brent Venables might wanna brace himself for O’Neal pivoting to Florida State or Arizona quicker than you can say, “SEC dominance.”

End of the day, this recruiting war ain’t over till the ink dries on those commitment letters. But one thing’s for sure: Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs are playing for keeps, and if they snatch Jaden O’Neal from Oklahoma’s grip, Brent Venables, who’s already in deep waters for that diabolical schedule he’s got for the 2025 season, might just have to call a rebuilding year before the season even starts.
