Let’s admit it. Some of us had thought that Kirby Smart and his Bulldogs dynasty was pretty much over as the team was stepping into the season with multiple players on their O-line injured or bruised. However, the mammoth win over Clemson at 34-3 proved that we had underestimated Smart and the new tactic he had taken up to ensure that his players have the required depth to pull anything off. While the victory was sweet and tender, the struggle ain’t over for Kirby Smart and his boys cause he still has to get over the monster Kalen DeBoer has created back at Alabama.

But can he? Cause Mykel Williams is out of the run for now. On September 3rd, LEE Ring brings us the news on X that Williams is reading with a Grade 2 injury; “Mykel Williams is dealing with a Grade 2 ankle injury, that it will be a week-to-week situation, and that Williams is likely questionable going into Saturday’s game against Tennessee Tech.” This is bad news for the DL and Smart. Williams is one of the Bulldogs’ top defensive players and without him on the defensive line, Smart would be walking over the cliff’s edge if he goes up against the Tides with this. Fans had great advice for Smart, “Fully rest him this week. Bring him back on for Bama,” one fan noted on X. This is a good idea. Against Tennessee and Kentucky, the Bulldogs should not have much trouble because they will have Carson Beck and Trevor Etienne will also be back against as his game ban is over.

Williams had 2 tackles back during the game against Clemson but Smart will need him against the Crimson Tide. We all saw what DeBoer’s team was capable of. They probably had one of the best openers on the entire CFB schedule. Grabbing a massive 63-0 win against WKU, the Tides have proved that their offense and defense should be feared. So, it ain’t a surprise that Bulldogs fans were so quick to warn Smart regarding the injury.

Fans ask Smart to ‘Rest [Williams] this week

One fan kept it straightforward. “Rest him this week, and thanks,” they wrote on X. As we mentioned before, Williams will be needed on the defensive line against the Tides. More so because Smart has to deal with 2 more injuries on his team. DT Warren Brinson has an ankle contusion and Nickelback Joenel Aguero has a hamstring injury. While Smart has assured that both of them will be ready for the next game, why take any risks? Another fan echoed a similar sentiment to the previous one. “Definitely won’t play, imo. Sit him until Bama, IMO,” they wrote on X. The game against the Tides is on September 29th. This long break would allow Williams and the others to get the needed rest and get down on the turf in peak physical condition.

One more fan added, “They should just sit him next week. We don’t need him next week. And they could even sit him for Kentucky. I’m really confident in Damon Wilson. As long as he is back for Alabama, we are all good.” Damon should be good enough to carry while Williams is out. We saw how he managed to silence Clemson’s offense so easily. Finally, one last fan noted that Williams should be ready for the Kentucky game. “He should rest this week and get ready for Kentucky and Alabama,” they wrote on X. We still think giving the kid a break till the Tides match is a better call. This would allow Smart to have much more breathing room because DeBoer is not going to make things easy.
