Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs dropped the season at 23-10 in the Sugar Bowl just a few days back. After a lot of back and forth with Carson Beck and Gunner Stockton, the Dawgs ended their run on a sour note. Blame it on their visible inability to run the ball, run block, or on the epic perfection of Riley Leonard, avoiding every turn over the net. But the result remains the same. Georgia couldn’t get the 2024 right on the place. But that doesn’t mean they can’t stage a comeback. With the new year showing new hopes, the transfer portal becomes the key source of a much-needed boomerang.

Is the $50 million coach paying enough attention to the recruiting front? Well, he’s paying money, at least.

Georgia Bulldogs seems to eye a former Charlotte 49er athlete

Deshawn Purdie is no longer suiting up for the Florida Gators. The former Charlotte transfer officially de-committed on Monday, just 22 days after he joined the forces. In the NIL-dominated era, it’s a recurring reality in most of the athletes’ activity books. They are not flying all over the conferences. They jump from one school to another in pursuit of a better NIL check, even at the cost of their career stability. In the case of Purdie, the 1800-yard playmaker with a huge cannon arm and the wont to rack up the scoreboard just followed the trend. Who all are on his checklist? Well, as per Shelton, the host of High-top sports, Georgia Bulldogs, runs the table.

A lot of people thought are thinking or talking that Georgia came in and offered a hefty bag and was moving in. As per Blake Alderman from 247, basically is saying that look when they signed these nil agreements, they also signed an SEC agreement that would prevent him from going to any other SEC school once he signed,” said Shelton. While you wonder what the trigger point of his departure from Billy Napier’s home could be, the above-mentioned crucial Georgia shenanigans smile in the corner. Georgia started to pursue Purdie in the portal last month. Smart and his co seemingly expect him to either outdo Gunnar Stockton for the starting job or to be placed as his backup. Their secret blueprint? Offering a high-flying NIL that is hard to turn back on.

”I think he can go in the in the spring portal. I believe he may be able to transfer to an SEC school. I’m not quite sure,” Shelton partly contradicted his previous dissentious intel. Whether or not Purdie jumps ship to Georgia or not, he would be an asset to any locker room for sure. Despite mounting a mostly underwhelming season as a freshman, Purdie shined out in the game against the Florida Atlantic. He completed 16-of-30 passes for 396 yards and three touchdowns.

Is the NIL era ruining college football's integrity, or is it just the new reality?

The rest where he fell short, is because of his previous program’s inability to hold the right spot for him in some way or the other. But if he comes to Georgia, it will be a whole different story than 49rs, Florida, or Maryland. But would that really heal the hurt the Bulldogs have already faced in the portal? A question to chew over.

Georgia Bulldogs continues losing talents in the portal

Jaden Rashada, the premium addition to Georgia football last spring, chose to depart a week back. Although he didn’t play a single game for the Dawgs, his absence would hurt the roster. Another head-turning portal blow came from none other than Carson Beck. After missing out on a tumultuous season with a grave elbow injury, the prodigy announced his intent to go for the NFL draft, but in a twisting move, he hit the portal instead. Beck indeed made a lot of blunders during the early games, but he started to bounce back and could offer a lot more if he stuck with the Bulldogs for his last collegiate year.

So far, more than nine Bulldogs have already hit the transfer portal, and it’s certainly not the sweet end. As per the expert’s assumption, at least 10-20 more will follow suit, and there is no rocket science about this. If you think players will revolve around the special team and wait for their chance to come, you better wake up and smell the coffee. It’s a new generation of college football where NIL decides the role. If athletes feel snubbed in any way, they’ll transfer to a team like Notre Dame and see the Dawgs on the other side. As simple as that.

However, if Kirby Smart can woo Deshawn Purdie by hook or crook, it would be a treasure move, no matter what.
