Is Kirby Smart really lying about not prepping for Alabama, or are fans overreacting?

Even after retirement, former Tide coach Nick Saban lives rent-free in Kirby Smart’s head. The entire Tides vs Dawgs rivalry has been a spectacle. With constant back and forth, it has shaped up to become one of THE games in CFB. So, it’s natural people have high expectations this year as well. More so because Kalen DeBoer has now taken over the Crimson Tide.

However, things don’t look that sharp for Kirby Smart and his boys. Going from the 3rd best win total projected by FPI to the 18th is a big deal. The close call with Kentucky proved that even the best team can make mistakes.

So, even after all this, it makes you wonder why Kirby Smart decided to say that he and his boys ain’t prepping for the Alabama game just yet. On September 19th, Touchdown Alabama brought us what Smart had mentioned regarding the game against the Tide. “We haven’t started on Alabama yet. Were on us right now,” Smart had mentioned. Now this is one lie the fans managed to see through with ease. “Kirby needs to quit lying!” a fan pointed out quickly. Being this close to the Alabama game and not prepping for it would be axing your foot. However, there is also a possibility that Smart is trying to play it off cool because he is burdened with greatness. With Saban’s retirement, came the biggest problem for Smart; becoming the center of attraction.

And with Saban attending the Tide vs Bulldogs game, Smart has to prove that he can carry the “next Nick Saban” title. Also, it is understandable that Smart is currently more focused on recovering from the close call in Kentucky. However, the Tide is still a much bigger threat. While the team doesn’t have the GOAT with them anymore, DeBoer has made sure that the boys are stronger than ever. We have seen how the team has managed to dominate all of its 3 games during Week 1 and 2.

While the game against SF was a sort of roadblock for DeBoer and his boys, the team still managed to turn things around in the 4th quarter. DeBoer has done amazing work with QB Jalen Milroe as well. The same cannot be said for Smart and his boys. While QB Carson Beck has been doing amazing and still is a frontrunner for the Heisman, there is a big possibility that Kirby Smart’s lofty expectations can end up becoming a burden for him.

Also, keep a note that Beck did suffer an injury during the Wildcats game. Smart has mentioned that Beck is doing much better after practice. However, anything can happen during the bye week. For now, let’s focus on what the fans had to say regarding Smart’s statement.

Have an interesting take?

Liar liar pants on fire

“Stfu Kirby 🙄 not one person believes this b-,” one fan pointed out. Either Smart is cooking up something behind the scenes or he is overconfident regarding the Tide because Nick Saban ain’t there anymore. Regardless of what it is, saying that you ain’t practicing for your biggest rivalry feels like a joke. Naturally, on the same note, another fan pointed out, “Bro be lying 🤥”. Smart and the Bulldogs stand at a 1.4% chance of winning the rest of their games, and that is LOW. The team has fallen from 7th place to 26th, so, pretty sure Smart is smart enough to not mess up the Alabama game.

Another fan said, “Lie. He started this prep week one.” There is always a possibility, but if that was the case, then the Wildcats game wouldn’t have gone so poorly. It exposed that maybe people have given the Bulldogs too much credit regarding their offensive line. Finally, a fan noted, “🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🥱Total B—sh-t.” One more week before we finally see the clash and how it pans out. Regardless of what the outcome may be, Nick Saban would still end up being happy.
