“You hear guys say ‘I’m built different’ but usually it’s all talk. This guy really is built differently.” It’s not often you see a team predicted to come last in the Big 12, claw and climb its way to the No.1 spot. So when ASU cracked a playoff spot, it made us wonder: How did Kenny Dillingham pull this off? And well, all signs pointed to a solid production in the running back room. Who did it? Cam Skattebo. From throwing up on the gridiron to almost winning an OT battle against Texas, Cam has done it all, and his numbers prove the same. 1700+ yards of production along with 21 touchdowns. Another Ashton Jeanty success story? Right?
Yeah, well, not exactly.
When your running back starts hitting like a linebacker, it’s time to rethink everything. “Arizona State standout running back Cam Skattebo officially ran a 4.65 40-yard dash at his Pro Day today.” When we first saw MLFootball put this up on X, our train of thought went to: “Wait, is Cam really an RB?” and well, some fans felt the same way. It’s kind of funny that just a few minutes back, Coach Kenny was out there dropping subtle warnings about this exact problem.

🚨NEWS: Arizona State standout running back Cam Skattebo officially ran a 4.65 40-yard dash at his Pro Day today.
😳
Skattebo is 5-foot-9 and 219 pounds.

“Have a day off. Lose in a one-on-one rep. It’s going on social media. You can’t just take a day off, because everybody’s going to see it,” Dillingham had pointed out. The moment you go “soft” and your “fumble” gets posted on the media, people WILL come to troll you, and such is the current scenario for Cam.
Now, he is not a bad running back. Hell, if we are to talk, keeping Mr. History as a witness, the 4.65 time means little to nothing. If it did, then Terrell Davis, with his 4.70 clock, wouldn’t have gotten 2 Super Bowl wins and MVP honors.
Cam is the guy who would probably run through a brick wall if his coaches asked him to, and that is the type of reliability you need on your roster. But hey, we’re just the side characters in this show—nothing we say is going to change how the fans on X see it.

Oh, Cam, what have you done?
“Oh, so he ain’t quick lol,” was the first comment we spotted under MLFootball’s post. Now, we already knew this. Cam was never your “blazing-fast runner”. Even on his private workouts, this RB was clocking between 4.53 and 4.57. If every RB out here was De’Von Achane, then who’s going to take up the LeGarrette Blount mantle? Sometimes you just need THAT GUY who can crush anything like M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 on a leisurely stroll.
Another fan mentioned, “The more i see of this guy the less impressed i am.” Now, everyone is entitled to their opinion. You can either call Cam a solid option for any NFL team in need of a bruiser running back, or you can call Cam a “he’s destined to be a backup” player. But, no matter what you say, it still won’t change the fact that he went on a 30-carry rampage against a solid Texas defense.
“Bro draft stock tanked,” was another comment that piqued interest. If we go off of the combine results, Cam is still a lucrative option, and his production score of 93 ranks him as the 2nd best RB in the 25′ class. Don’t think this little time problem would change much.

Finally, a fan said, “bigger, faster, stronger my a*s. These players are soft and slow.” Well, debatable. The 25′ class is still interesting – now it is no 17′ class of Leonard Fournette, Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook, or Joe Mixon – but it is still something.
All in all, Cam still has a lot to offer, and he would be a good dime to bet on.
