Well, Kalen DeBoer rolled into Tuscaloosa with a full plate, only for the buffet to keep piling on him. With staff shakeups, a 9-4 season, and the nonstop grind of rebuilding Bama’s empire, things went south pretty soon for him. Plus, he lost a defensive assistant, but thank God he locked Ryan Grubb back in, keeping the ship from sinking any faster. However, the moment he ties everything together, fate intervenes. And this one hits home, making it both a proud and brutal moment, as his own daughter just flipped the tide against him.
But how? Kalen DeBoer’s talented daughter and an extraordinary softball player, Alexis DeBoer, hit a three-run home run for Washington against Alabama, making her a big threat to Bama. And as any proud sister, Avery DeBoer puts up an Instagram story to hype Alexis’ big achievement with a heartwarming caption that says, “LETS GO 3 HOMERUNS TODAYYY.” Well, why wouldn’t she be proud? Washington came out swinging — literally.
Don’t be surprised to know that Alexis DeBoer struck the first blow for Bama. The freshman infielder launched a powerful hit to center field in the first inning, narrowly evading Kristen White’s glove. It was a three-run homer, right in front of her father. Washington quickly took a 3-0 lead, momentarily causing it to appear as though Alexis had completely turned the tables on Alabama in the Candrea Classic.

However, we all know that Bama never stays down for long. Larissa Preuitt got Alabama on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with a solo shot, narrowing the deficit to 3-1. Then came the sixth inning, where Bama did what they do best — took control. Despite being down 1-2 in the count, she swung at a pitch and sent it soaring over the right-field wall.
In an instant, Alabama snatched the lead, making it 4-3. Once Alabama gained control, they effectively shut the door. And added three more runs, securing a 7-3 victory — their third consecutive win to start the season. It’s a tough break for Alexis, but at least Kalen DeBoer didn’t have to see his team get completely folded in real-time. But this isn’t the first time DeBoer’s team defeated Huskies.
Kalen DeBoer’s team repeating history
No wonder Alexis was great, but let’s not forget this wasn’t Washington’s first defeat to the Tide this weekend. Alabama had previously triumphed over them 5-1 in the season opener. Alexis, who holds the No. 11 spot in the 2024 recruiting class, finished the weekend with three hits, including that spectacular homer against her father’s team. But for Kalen DeBoer, this must have been a weird experience. Wouldn’t it be simpler if Alexis were in Bama?

To be honest, Alexis DeBoer had made her commitment to Washington long before her dad had settled in Seattle. Even when he left for a lucrative opportunity at Alabama, Alexis remained unwavering in her decision. Heather Tarr’s leadership in the Washington softball program also appealed to her, regardless of her dad’s coaching location.
She also never entertained the idea of switching teams just because her dad changed jobs. Alexis remained loyal to her choice, demonstrating that she is more than just “Kalen’s daughter.” She is a true Husky, forging her own path and leaving her own mark.
Moreover, talking about her steady commitment to Washington despite Kalen DeBoer’s move to Bama, she says, “I chose the University of Washington because it felt like home and everybody was so inviting. It is a great balance of academics and athletics, and you receive so much support from anything you need.” Now that she is proving her capabilities with her father’s support, it shows the kind of athlete she is. Let’s see what more she brings to the table for the Huskies in the coming days.
