The captain is leading from the front! Jalen Milroe is back in the headlines this time for all the good reasons. The past few weeks were very demotivating for him and the team. He was criticized back, front and center for his poor performance. However, he made a comeback last week against LSU and made sure to enter week 12, where he left. October wasn’t easy for Milroe. Many blame him for their loss over Tennessee. Critics even said that he should return for one more season; they said he was not ready for the NFL. While everyone was busy criticizing him, the new head coach backed him throughout, and now, after the difficult time, they are here 8-2, enjoying the fruits together. However, the bad days were not easy, and DeBoer shed some light on what exactly triggered him.
On November 18th, the Alabama Crimson Tide shared DeBoer’s interview where he broke down the Bama’s effort and execution against Mercer and highlighted Milroe’s leadership qualities. “I think it just starts with doing what’s best for the team, and that’s what Jalen is all about. That’s really what I think triggers him to want to win, and here’s how we got to win. You know, there’s going to be times where you got to throw the ball; there are times where you got to run and just reps over and over and over again.” Milroe’s commitment to the team is something else; After all, he is a military kid! This Saturday (Week 12), he threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in just over two quarters and led the Tide to a 52-7 victory.

Moving forward, DeBoer reflected on the positive development of Milroe as a quarterback. “He’s, I think, back in a really good spot with trust in the guys around him; there’s been a little more continuity with the practice, skill players, and offensive line. There’s just been more of that. He’s become more comfortable understanding what our team needs from him to be able to win SEC football games.”
This season, we have seen many quarterbacks struggling; Milroe was one of them, but he made sure to turn the tables. The quarterback completed 11 passes for 186 yards against the Bears. He used his USP and rushed for 43 yards, and added another touchdown. With his performance on Saturday, he showed why he was arguably the best quarterback in November.

Jalen Milroe is not just helping Alabama win games; he is here to make history. He leads the team in both passing and rushing yards. Since 1949, only four times in Alabama football history have players led the Tide in both passing and rushing. And do you know if he maintained this form for the remainder of the season, it will be for the first time in 45 years that a player has accomplished this achievement? It is huge, right?
Not just that, his contribution has also allowed him to break Jalen Hurts’ record for the most rushing touchdowns by an Alabama quarterback. Plus, he makes the crucial plays through the air. We told you he is here to create history. Milroe is now rushing to become the fourth SEC quarterback to achieve at least 20 passing touchdowns and 20 rushing touchdowns in a single season. We hope the critics are listening to this.

Rivals reported Alabama’s quarterback coach Mick Sheridan’s comment on Milroe, “I think he deserves so much credit for the work he’s put in throughout his career and becoming as good of a football player as he possibly can be.”
The young talent really deserves all the appreciation and love, especially after all the hate received last month. But the game is not over yet; the captain and a lot more have to prove this season.
